If everyone went to hell before Jesus came, then how did Moses appear when the Bible says he died? Going along with this, if you don’t believe Jesus descended to hell to save them then why do you disagree with that creed but not the other creeds? Or if people are asleep and not in hell, once again how did he appear? Or if you believe he was lifted up like Elijah, is the Bible lying about Moses’ death? But Professor Tolkien was a devout Catholic and discussed with Lewis how the Catholic Church is the one holy apstolic church Jesus Christ founded via scripture, throughout their lives. Tolkien was a Christian epic. He didn't write it to have allegories in it, but he wanted it to "feel" true. In order to do that he had to add a lot of Truth to his stories. Did you know that in his epic there are at least 3 death and resurrection sequences. 1) Frodo at Weathertop (and his ride to Rivendell with Glorfindel and Elrond causing the fords to appear as galloping white horses that washed away the black horses of the Nazgul. 2) Gandalf falling in the mines of Moria, assumed dead and seen later as Gandalf the White. I love the last one. In order for Aragorn to defeat the enemy at Pelennor Fields and be crowned as King of Gondor, he first had to go through the Paths of the Dead. This is such a perfect picture of Jesus who, in order to secure our salvation, first had to die, not for anything He had done, but because of all the sin we had done. And having obeyed His Father, rose from the dead and will soon return as King of kings and Lord of lords. They really believed in them. Myth is a folklore genre consisting narrative, story or tale. When the early christian movement wanted to convert people, they told stories about Jesus to convince people to join the "club" Gods dying, rising, being made immortal, ascending to and through the sky(heaven) did not start after Christianity.
