I can now back up all my data and also that data is available to any device connected to my local network (and that means multiple computers and phones by wifi too). However, it has been a bit of a struggle, which I would like to share, in the hope that this may help others. 1) Install Legacy Bullseye and NOT the current Bookworm version. I chose 64-bit Legacy LITE for a Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB). 2) Most annoying was that the script would stop with this error: "openmediavault package failed to install or in a bad state". 2a) I checked the SSD on Windows, and found the drive would not show at all. Not faulty, but need to be assigned a drive letter by using Disk Manager. I then formatted the drive. Transferred the SSD to a Linux machine and formatted again with ext4 file system. 2b) Instead of typing the tinyurl command, I instead typed the github command given in the acompanying documentation link. That did the trick. In the future I would like to explore a rsync incremental backup method. My hard drive is constantly displayed to me, but I can ONLY access the free space on the HDD, but not the existing data. It would be very nice of you if a video like this could be made. OMV 6.9.x will not install on Bookworm yet. It errors out and tells you that you need to use Bullseye. Also, be aware that if you set your Pi up to use wifi, OMV might turn that off. I started via ssh on wifi, after installing OMV and reboot my Pi was no longer on the wifi. I had to connect a cable to get back in which wasnt really convenient for the work I was doing. Something people should consider when they start this process. Two years ago, I followed the previous (OMV5) video which worked flawlessly. I followed OMV6 video to the letter, except the beginning RP OS used in this vid, flashing a new SD card each time. Then swapped in Pi used in OMV5. Still failed exact same way, at least 6 times: "E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) "failed to install openmediavault package." Then, I came across the RP OS image used in my OVM5 install (2021-05-07-raspios-buster-armhf-lite) started with that and THAT worked. However, instead of OMV6, OVM5 (5.6.26-1) was installed. The result was identical with both the two year old board and the two week old board. (Always swap parts, one at a time, when error trapping!) I could not locate an image for the RP OS you used (2022-04-04, my ideal staring point for replicating a successful install with OMV6) and my failed installs began with 2023-05-03-raspios-bullseye-armhf-lite image. I can only surmise that this newer OS version is what breaks the OMV installation process. ADD'L: Found 22-04-04. Ran thru process.
