Because it has that fun, cheesy YA independent aspect to it, but balances it with good performances and decent writing. Kinda like Riverdale or Spectacular Now, those have the perfect balance too. On top of that you have the summer horror of it all, like Friday the 13th. The slow burn is so nice too because it gives time to take in the atmosphere and connect to the characters.
