A few things on quantum computing works for anyone looking to go a bit more in depth: - Qubits aren't exactly 1, 0, or both. It's more accurate to say they're 1, 0, or a linear combination of 0 and 1. For example a qubit can be in the state |x> = a|0> + b |1> where |a|^2 + |b|^2 = 1. We write quantum states with this |> notation. - When qubits are measured, all we see is a 0 or 1 for each qubit. The quantum information stays inside the quantum computer. - Other models of quantum computers include Ion Traps, Neutral Atoms, and Nitrogen Vacancy Centers. - We understand some algorithms that give us exponential speedup vs classical algorithms. The problem is our current devices are noisy - they have errors. - We are trying to make qubits with fewer errors and also make more qubits. Once we reach a certain level of qubit error, we are able to combine many qubits together to perform error correction. (this is called the quantum threshold theorem) - In the meantime, some research groups are looking at algorithms that don't require a lot of error correction and can run on near term quantum computers. If anyone has questions, I can try answer in the comments. Source: I work for a quantum computing company. Bonus: superposition and entanglement isn't enough for "quantum supremacy", you need additional types of operations to get the speedup (Gottesman–Knill theorem). I think most of the hardware companies mentioned have implemented or are working at implementing the additional operation so no need to worry :)

It would seem that photonic quantum computers would be the most practical architecture to develop. As, or so it seems, to be significantly more power efficient than cryogenic cooling solutions. These systems tend to consume 1 or more megawatts of power. And if they have any similarities with modern LEDs, they might consume as little as a mid-ranged graphics card or CPU.

We just need graphene semiconductor based integrated circuits - way less resistance means way less power means way less heat and way faster switching speeds. Instead of barely being able to hit 5ghz we'd be able to get 50ghz compute cycles and even with yesteryear's transistor sizes (i.e. 2010 transistor sizes) that'd still be a huge leap in compute speed. We still have not ran any software on it. We don't have any evidence it's even possible. It's all purely theoretical. And even if it's possible it can't scale up enough to compete with classical computing. This is because ALL quantum physics is theoretical.

It's amazing. Imagine all the complicated physics problems that have many differential equations (like a hundred or so) being easily solved. Imagine designing a car or bike with such a high level of simulation. Even something like IA - evolutive solutions to something as simple as a wheel. We will see massive advancements in all fields of engineering... But since I'm a mechanical one, I can't stop thinking about this field. Even internal combustion engines with significatively better gas consumption.

I really is unbelievably unbelievable how Canada not only developed the Quantum computer in Toronto, Google brain, they also developed NORAD system and technologies, the five eyes systems and technologies, Leopard 2 tanks with Canadian technologies as the most PRECISE killing machine on earth, invisibility suit and blankets technologies, massive cyber technologies well beyond any other nation, Or even small group of Nations. I think QC are a scam, a gimmick to pump stock prices. Super Position and Entanglement are miss conceptions errors of physics, so they must not mean the same in reality in QC, how can more actions to reach a value be ever more fast than a normal computer? They probably will use specific cups like they do using Cuda cores and use AI algorithms to speed up tasks. China? Imagine one day they use all the backdoors they been implanting in encryption and hardware and then they will claim it was cracked by QC, what prepared answer will they have for us then?

It will be Intel all over again. Drip feed us a faster quantum processor every year for 20 years when they already have the next few generation's on the shelf, just to make money. I don't know much about this sort of computer are we heading down the road of machines solving problems themselves.
