<<@Permeatfisk says : And here we are, four years later, some of us still forced to use Win11, M365 and Teams at work - with all their so called ”Feature updates”. So much lost time and added frustration! Add to that: why not start updating at the very time you are in need of using the software, thereafter starting a spiffy ”what’s new”- guide and the worst possible time?>> <<@mrHaXuanQuyen2K8 says : 9:15 I hate the new Windows as a Service platform.>> <<@eaqie says : While your complaint about the cookie messages itself might be valid. The proposed solution and reasoning behind it are faulty. Many websites put literally hunderds of tracking and advertisement cookies on your computer. These cookie messages are not there to accept the basic website functionality cookies as those are usually impossible to turn off. These cookie messages usually specifically let you turn off any additional cookies that are not in your best interest. Lately, some news websites have even gone as far as prompting you to ask advertisement cookies form their more than 400 advertisements or pay money to proceed to the article. These is no decline option! They're selling your data and make you easily trackable and surveilled through these cookies and it would be advicable to decline all optional cookies instead of enabling them. I recommend installing automatic cookie blocking extensions, anti tracking extentions like Ghostery. And instead of turning off cookies alogether, which also disables essential cookies for accounts and shopping carts. And that would actually make the cookie message prompt up every time (because the website also uses cookies to remember your preference for that) you should turn on cookie isolation instead so websites cannot cross-site track you. Security is an essential, often overlooked part of computer science. It is important to protect yourself and your family against privacy breaching security risks.>> <<@7hkey says : Email programs not showing the actual email address but only the name of the sender. In a way it affects products that you buy regularly too: you pick product x of brand y, and when you want to buy the same thing - because you liked it - again, the product has already changed, everything has the tag "new!". New formula, new smell, new functionality... Ffs i just want the same toothbrush!>> <<@ostrovmusic says : I'm a video editor. What's irritated me most in recent years is that the balance between creating a good product and making money has shifted completely toward the latter. Take Adobe's subscription and AI nonsense, for example. I'm still using Premiere [before AI rubbish] Pro 2020 and don't see any point in upgrading. Moreover, everything has gotten significantly worse in Premiere Pro 2025 on the same hardware (rendering speed, importing long videos, etc.).>> <<@snowthemegaabsol6819 says : 5. I find this to be much more of of an issue with low quality mice or displays rather than bad webpage design. That and on mobile operating systems, but that entire UI just sucks anyway. Very rarely is there any situation where I actually need the precision afforded by a scrollbar, but for those rare instances, changing your browser's UI scaling is the easiest permanent solution 4. Yes, for god's sake, and this is even more annoying as cookies were supposed to be a time saving convenience. Then they started being misused by companies and data brokers and now data privacy laws have to get involved, it's such a damn mess 3. This is an unfortunate consequence of a shift in priorities. Managers of professional websites are responsible for maximizing user throughput and engagement, and optimizations just isn't how you do it. People like flashy backgrounds, pleasing banners, satisfying grid layouts, crisp images and animations. And because websites no longer have to be optimized to be usable, at least to the people they "care" about, of course they wont spend and development resources on it. After all, how else are they going to fit all that feature creep into their workflow? 2. I will push back on this though. I really genuinely don't get the micro HDMI hate. I can't go onto one video on this platform about pi stuff and not see a single complaint about it, how fragile they are, how they can get dusted up easily,, all the usual stuff. I've never had a single micro HDMI connector or port break, and never had to dust one out. And that's with fairly frequent cable changes. I get that in principle, it's more prone to breaking under stress and wobbling while the cable is plugged in. But I don't see how that's an issue with the connector or port, that's just a skill issue. I plug it in with no more force than necessary, never pull on the cables to either side, up or down, and they're still working just as good as day 1 after all these years 1. This is a pretty bad comparison. A drill is a drill, the expectation is that is drills and nothing else. Scissors are scissors, the expectation is for them to cut and nothing else. A Windows PC is expected to suit every consumer and professional use case that has ever existed, exists right now and will exist in the next 10 years. This is increasingly the expectation with Linux as well. Regular updates are the only reason why you can still use old hardware to run new software. Without them, there would be far bigger problems with planned obsolescence and E-waste, which are bad enough as is.>> <<@Wii505 says : I don't get why some companies will still sell a game that worked on an older version of Windows and just not bother to make sure work on newer versions of Windows from time to time. And what it worse is some companies will re-release a game digitally and it will have a random problem because of some ancient DRM that randomly gets triggered and Manhunt is a good example of this>> <<@williamgarcia9858 says : One thing I don't like on Windows 10/11 is how updates do not give you any sort of information about the available updates.>> <<@sxyqt3.14 says : the worst thing about modern scroll bars is that in old windows you could just flick your mouse to the right not paying attention and just left click and it would make the scroll bar jump. this was super nice for scrolling for me. now theres a little GAP between the edge of the window and the scroll bar meaning i have to look, aim my mouse and then do it. Which is just tedious>> <<@markbrad123 says : I find the updates annoying too. People are now having to enable the ' Do not install drivers' setting in GPEDIT to stop the Update service installing a new BIOS firmware and bricking laptops. If you wanted to do that you would really want to backup your BIOS firmware first. The other thing is why can not Microsoft put some code in update to cease updating when an update is failing ? I think you would better be using a micro HDMI to HDMI female instead of a cable then there is less chance of breaking a pin using micro HDMI when plugging it in. You just then plug in a HDMI cable which is less likely to have pin breaks when plugging in.>> <<@CraigRodmellMusic says : Frankly, I miss the days when operating systems were built into ROM, and you updated the operating system ONLY when you replaced your hardware. I have one PC that runs Windows 10 offline. It will stay running Windows 10 offline. I don't need a ton of "updates" on it. It will also never get Copilot/Recall or any other unwanted "features". Microsoft tried installing Copilot during an update (which Microsoft decided I needed, not me) on my Daily Driver (also currently Windows 10). I uninstalled that pretty damn smartly! Mind you, it's a bit of a moot point, because in the New Year, it will be converted to Linux.>> <<@Kennephone says : The worst thing about micro usb/hdmi is that in most cases there's enogh room not to use it but for some reason they decided to.>> <<@adamlxrd says : To #1, the harsh truth is that the drill is your drill, and only you have the right to change it. Many dumb product raters (/haters) give many useless opinions, and the industry doesn't even back-check why they should degrade their products. The dorks get what they like "for us" whilst hard workers and quality hardly gets improved by experience, great tools get lost. This actually violates the directive that enforces this cookie consent message in the first place, as it states it should be a single-button operation. That said, I dont find it annoying to have the option to turn off tracking cookies, etc. Not all cookies are equal, and you cant just disable all cookies as that would also include useful cookies, such as the ones that store your login session or whatever. The enemy of the state for those people when it comes to laptops seems to be the TrackPoint.
