I know it all gets auto-looted when you transition on the map, but I've often had MUCH better weapons drop mid-combat. You can bet your ass I'm not waiting to use them. I hit my "Scoop Everything" button, then switch to whatever Legendary just dropped. It makes no sense to go up to each individual item and pick it up, then cross the map to hand-gather the next item, and so on.
