In my old age I have developed asbestosis. It's a bummer. I was likely exposed during my service years in the early 1970s flying F4s and service as an ALO on navy DDGs. We used to invert the F4 as part of housekeeping after depot servicing to get loose objects and dirt from under the cockpit floor and sweep them up off the canopy. Asbestos was used to insulate the cockpit. Loose particles were likely in the sweepings.
