If there is insufficient oxidizer, H2 will be formed. Coal gasification is how they make syngas (H2 and CO) after all. Additionally, and CO produced can further react with water vapor to make H2. This is called the water gas shift reaction. If you are looking for new video ideas with experiments, I would love it if you could try making syngas and then convert the hydrocarbon chains into edible butter like the Germans did in WW2 to help feed a good percentage of the population.
