A fantastic and thorough video, as always! Thank you. I happen to work with computers on the software side and still remember how excited all the people in the mass media were about the 64-bit CPUs, or 5G technology. Many "wonders" have been ascribed to these developments, and I always wondered "why" (in disbelief)? The 64-bit computing was such an overused buzzword that (apart from the larger addressable memory space access without having to resort to the pesky "segment-switching business", and a larger integer size) didn't seem to offer much to an experienced programmer, or 5G was bound to "change the World" (and then COVID-19 rained on its parade). The question remains: how "exactly" is Quantum Computing faster then the conventional one??

I understand the potential for quantum computing. My question is this: (and I have watched dozens of QC videos on YT and it never gets addressed) Let's say you are trying to brute force a password with your quantum computer. Let's say you find the password in only a few seconds. HOW do you know that was the password without having iteratively tested every single other password against the encrypted data? How is it any faster?

how do you not mention IonQ? the founder basically invented quantum computing and learned under the man who invented the theory, its the largest pure quantum company by far, and has the best performing quantum chip, they even invented the system for measuring useable Qbits

Just a touch of reality.....the largest number any "quantum" has factored is 35. You can do that in your head. And the results were highly random as sometimes they got the right answer, mostly not. Sounds like something I'd want to use.......🙄🙄

Hi Chris, I just watched Sabine Hossenfelder's YT video: The Quantum Hype Bubble Is About To Burst I have to say after watching it I felt deflated! There are so many claims about quantum research, it's hard to know who to believe. China just claimed to have built the world's first photonic quantum computer. I suppose this is a rather noobish question, but: Is theoretically possible to build user software like operating systems, device drivers, applications, videogames, computer-human interfaces exclusively on quantum processors? Can quantum processing ever entirely replace binary processing, or is it going to be more of an "extension" to it, like MMX and the like? I'm under the impression that quantum computers are more for calculating extremely complex math than for something like controlling hardware and user interfaces. I can't figure this out myself and it seems like I can't find anyone laying this out for me.
