The israelis were spoofing gps signals in Jordan in 2024 so all phone based navigation was impossible. Wherever you were in the country your position was given as on the runway at the main international airport.

Why would you think that Putin and his crews of crooks wouldn't deliberately build stuff to cock up our GPS. Can you imagine what they would do to screw us? You should never ever trust a Russian despot psychopath. With all that bandwidth out there why would they put any deliberate communication bursts in the area of GPS?

I mean, who is actually surprised it was Russia? GPS is an American invention that came from the Cold War era. They likely developed strategies to knock out our own satellites to make us "blind." Why do you think we developed and tested a missing that could be fired from a fighter that could escape the atmopshere and strike a satellite? We did that test publicly for a reason - Russia. ;)
>>
<<@austrogalant
says :
Given that this is an early missile warning satellite constelation, from a military perspective it is extremely smart to build a jammer/spoofer into these satellites. People often seem to forget that GPS is a military system. And with this capability, once a (nuclear) missile launch is detected by the satellite it can automatically start to jam/spoof the navigation of said missile. And if you talk to your satellites on the same frequency as well so the enemy can't jam you back? Brilliant. Credit where credit is due. PS: the civilian impact would still be minimal, even if this system was turned on continuously, because as pointed out in the video, your device can easily swap to one of the other positioning systems, like Galileo.
