As a nurse, I've seen patients insurance deny all sorts of treatments and procedures. We have a whole team of office workers who spend their days calling insurance to get approvals. This is how insurance will make up for this
They will cut that pacemaker for grandma if she is not expecting to live the 10years it will work. Also we treat meds like a long-term use instead of a few days treatment for your mental break and then wean off and therapy and cooping techniques.

Medical professionals are NOT likely in on it because they don’t always get full reimbursement from insurance companies regardless if they say they’ll cover something. So I would HIGHLY DOUBT doctors are in on it.
Also hormone replacement therapy can be dangerous even when you’re a woman in menopause, so messing with hormones is not good.

I do think, like Taylor, that we need to be careful to not assume EVERYBODY who takes an SSRI is a case of overprescribing or that conservatives can never need meds. Are drugs overprescribed (especially ADHD drugs)? Very much so. One thing I heard as a good rule of thumb is that if you're feeling numb or getting a high off of a drug then it is NOT something you should be taking. Also IMO all other lines of treatment should be exhausted first. I powered my way through for 20+ years of anxiety and depression and wanting nothing to do with taking any meds, only to reach the point where it wasn't just discomfort (which I can and did push through)...I actually reached the point of literally not being able to function despite the full force of my will AND all of my prayers and intellect. I do take an SSRI and I don't feel numb, high, or anything else. And with the coping mechanisms that I *already actively developed in those 20 years* I honestly feel like in my middle age I've really come into my own since I can employ those things to a much fuller extent.
