To add to the argument that Musk's vehicles are broadly way too heavy, this also increases the need for maintenance on roads, thus making EV manufacturers implicitly more subsidized than ICE manufacturers. A smart tax policy incorporates this in vehicle ownership taxes though, at which point owning an EV becomes a lot less attractive.

I'm not a fan of musk, and I don't own one of his cars, although I think I would like it if I had the kind of life where I could buy expensive things that other people repair / maintain for me. I know he's a controversial figure and says and does stuff he probably shouldn't but I am hesitant to slam people trying to make different things and innovative. I agree there's a right way and a wrong way to go about that. The best way for me to vote is with my dollar.
