Greetings All! Following many posts below, just a word on the operation of the Pi 5 power button. When power is first connected to the Pi 5 (ie the adapter is plugged in to the wall socket and/or switched on there), the Pi 5 immediately boots -- which is what happens in the first boot shown in the video. But if the Pi is then shut down but power is not removed, the power button can be pressed to boot it up again (which is what happens in the second two boots shown in the video). So those worrying that human intervention is neccessary on every boot, or after a power outage, need not fear. :)

@ExplainingComputers You mention that having a real time clock battery connector is a useful thing. Could you do a video where you elaborate on this, and maybe show what possibilities it offers?

Can youtube videos (at 1080 p) run smoothily on pi5 ?

I appreciate EVERYTHING you do for technology and taking the TIME to evaluate the "Latest and Greatest" technology! I think we ALL do! I think YOU just talked me into a new RPI5! with the LATEST technology! Except! You didn't! SOC? Finally added a CLOCK!? What's next? WIFI? Evil laugh! LOVE, LOVE , LOVE you! SOME will be offended!

Who misses the 3.5mm audio jack besides me? If you have a hdmi monitor with built-in speakers the sound may not be that great but I guess if the monitor has an audio jack you could plug in external speakers.

Query: Would high quality CPU thermal paste work better than those pre-applied thermal pads on that cooler?
@jimtekkit Says:
It's funny because I have an old Asus Eee PC Seashell laptop that has a single core Intel Atom N455, and with a fresh Lubuntu install I ran the same CPU test at 15:14. Mine was slower and completed in 3.5 minutes. Minutes, not seconds.....

today i get my 3rd RPI 5, one i used for Ubuntu desktop and Kodie , the 2nd is in a argon case, did that yesterday and the 3rd is coming today with a metalic box, i will also order nvme hat and a nvme drive, but the case in wich it fit's is not for sale yet.

Thank you Chistopher for your insightful videos. The Rp1 Southbridge chip will improve GPIO control in the near tear but it has created havoc with some of my code. I’m struggling with servos and step motors controls. I would share welcome a video on the topic. Thanks again for your fine work. Cheers

Does it come from Sony”s facility in Pencoed? I was there when the raspi 1 was on production.

Many consulting and IoT development companies are worried about the abilities to purchase Raspberry Pi 5 because there are a lot of delays in suppling resellers. Is it something I should be worrying of for my IoT projects and then try to find an alternative board ? Many thanks for your answer.
@lashturner Says:
I got mine this week and it doesn't boot up. I was thinking that my 5v 3a power supply wasn't enough to run pi5 so I went online and ordered a 5v 5a power supply. I hope this helps.
@christopherwarner6422 Says:
Can I leave my pi5 on all the time(Red light) or do I have to unplug it every time ?.Excuse my novice question ,when I was at school slide rules and log books were all we had.
@ErikThiart Says:
Booting from SSD to me is the biggest win. I cant run serious stuff on a SD Card due to loss of data posibility. SSD will last much longer.

Well, this is jolly good! I remember your video reviewing the Pi4, and wondering at the time if it would run Linux Mint, which you said it would do an OK job of. It seems that this one would, beyond question, be able to replace my 2011 MacBook Pro i5 as a desktop for Mint. Very encouraging news. I wonder what Japan's one and only official Raspberry Pi distributor is doing the starter pack for? (computer/case/cooler/power adapter/8G) We shall see....
@metatronmen2431 Says:
Impressive how fast boot up and how fast opened the browser, the Pi 4 is a bit frustrating slow for most part, looks like the 5 going to be more enjoyable.
@tohaason Says:
I would lose the second HDMI in an instant if that would get rid of the micro-HDMI connectors, which I really hate. They're just too small. HDMI connectors are too stiff, there's too much momentum and I've accidentally damaged a couple of HDMI connectors when installing Pi 4 boards in awkward places. I can't stand micro-HDMI. I need normal robustness a million times more than I would ever need dual HDMI ports.
@Zooumberg Says:
I got mine today.

Why get rid of 3.5mm audio? Deal breaker.
@hacerdemirel9833 Says:
When Raspberry Pi will have SnapDragon processor?
@ThomasDilts Says:
Pi 4 released in 2019 and pi 5 will be released in 2024. In 5 years less than double the speed/power. Not so impressive. But it's fast enough and the real shock is the low price. ❤❤❤
@micaiaskauss Says:
What good is it being able to run YouTube faster if the board has no audio interface? What do we need 4 monitors for with no audio device?

wonder what the throughput for VPN now is with the io at least offloaded from the cpu. 2meg is just right for openwrt. hope it comes out soon.

it would be nice to compare it to a couple of those $100 or less mini pc on Amazon

All thes pi bs they're slow asssf even opening a a browser is a huhe task. These things are useless. My 2006 phone is faster than 10 of these thing put together. It's time to end this stupidity.

I want to buy the pi 400, as it's keyboard system all in one. I want to use it for amiga 500 emulation and ps1 emulation so I don't have to pull out all my machines this Christmas. After watching your video's, I'm not sure which one to get now. I saw the video of the orange pi 800, and now the pi5 has the keyboard like the pi 400. What do you recommend with all that's on the market for my use of the pi?
@devrim-oguz Says:
Why don’t they just put two full-sized vertical HDMI ports 😫
@kipper2k Says:
overclocking capabilities ?
@adoteq_ Says:
I have got one like 1,5 weeks ago. Finally my pre-order came in. Get the 8GB version while you can. Seems that the 5 is already sold out in my country for the rest of this year.

What exactly is going on here, according to the Raspberry Pi Foundation there is no Raspberry pi 5 yet.

@dbtx Says:
It looks like a real banger. I hope there's something like a raspi-config switch or a matching config.txt line to control what it does after power loss, like x86 BIOSes frequently do. I'd wager a great many people want and need the thing to just turn on when it gets power much more than they need the manual/attended/desktop behavior.
