It’s a scapegoat that Stephen Colbert tried to use years ago. 99% of stand-up comedians are not doing a character. They’re speaking absolutely about what they believe, in a comedic way. They pretty much brought down John Major. Their newer YouTube stuff was clearly anti-conservative propaganda.
It's less funny when it's politically motivated. There are plenty of comedians I like who poke fun, but usually only one's I perceive to do so indiscriminately or who take a side unashamedly. Not one's who try to mislead their audience.
Comedy is as it always was, a very powerful political tool. Unfortunately I fear the left are more aware of it, though right-leaning comedians appear to be more popular on the face of it (or anti-woke, at any rate)

I was a big proponent of freedom of speech until a few years ago. The reason why is I came across an idea so dangerous that merely mentioning it in a public space or social media will give it enough exposure that odds are someone insane will actually make said dangerous idea a reality. All under the guise of freedom of speech and the idea so out there that most people will not understand its ramifications until it's too late. It was then that I realized that maybe enduring for tens of thousands of years socially impaired isn't so bad. Better than causing the extinction of the entire human race within a century.
