Why do we launch rockets from Florida?

Why do we launch rockets from Florida?

????

I always thought Florida seemed like a terrible place to launch anything from.

A lot of NASA executives and senior technical managers stay in Florida for several weeks before and after each launch. It's a great place for a company paid vacation.
@Pedroto3 Says:
Wouldnt puerto rico or hawaii make more sense?
@garrysekelli6776 Says:
It slows down the earth faster that way.
@SilkyJohnson7 Says:
Probably cuz blue states have ridiculous regulations
@AlanCats1 Says:
So blue origin can explode

I just love this guy
@llort42 Says:
Uhm, you can rocket to the east from anywhere. The latitude matters of course so pick anywhere along the equator.
@thengine7 Says:
And geriatrics in the fallout area.
@saintcarter3263 Says:
What about being closer to the Equator???😮
@akshancegupta-qd1ci Says:
There is so much happening in the video it's hard concentrate on what you are saying 😂

Yet space shuttle Colombia still exploded and spread apart alll over the country

You look drunk off knowledge
@gregtitus2467 Says:
Would how the source of the funding for the launches gets through political hoops have anything to do with it? Does the phrase 'pork barrel' ring a bell?
@jyrkilahtonen791 Says:
In Jules Verne's book it was because the tilts of the Earth's axis and the Moon's orbit never sum up to a larger latitude than Florida.
@theofaron961 Says:
You could have waited for rain to subside to shoot this but you didn't. Thank you. And thank you for this fact!
@hassanal-salih1711 Says:
And the question remain why? Every point on earth has the same initial velocity and second point is there are many coastal states
@askquestionsseektruth4436 Says:
If utilizing earths spin to help achieve escape velocity because the force is greater at the equator, then everything would weigh more further away from the equator. If the centrifugal force is greater or less in certain areas we would be able to measure it. IE things would weigh more.
@jaimeduncan6167 Says:
And also it's south, the rotation speed I is higher at the equator, and if you are going to geo-sync is also an advantage.
@Yan-dh5yc Says:
Why would Fl move to east faster than other spot on Earth?
@patrick149 Says:
You didn't explain why at cape Canaveral and any other place on the east coast. Well I know it's the rotation speed of the earth and the further away from the equator the slower it is relatively. So the furthest we go south in North America is only Texas and Florida. So if that's the case why not Miami area or Fort Lauderdale for NASA in the final decision?
@ramcsekhar1 Says:
Same thing with India sriharikota any thing misfired directly to Bay of Bengal or Indian Ocean 🌊
@antonytselios497 Says:
Do you realize how STUPID is the 1st thing you say???? Please go back to school and study physics. Basic laws, nothing more
@markbrown4080 Says:
Its all political.. science is not a factor..
@RRAX Says:
He said we 😂😂😂
@frankandrade6833 Says:
So the rockets have more velocity on the east coast?
@MrZealot1 Says:
So the rest of the world does not go east? 🤌🤦🏼
@Mr.picklewizard Says:
“Not the rest of your country” china might want to take notes

@hankgreen
@Aabil11 Says:
I really thought he was gonna say, what's nice about Florida is, what you have over there, is the rest of Florida
@GeoffB1776 Says:
He's only half right the Earth spins faster nearer the equator and Florida is the southernmost state in the continental US
@combscombs2 Says:
Thanks for the info, very enlightening🎉❤😂
@florisv559 Says:
Any point near the East Coast would work as well, wouldn't it?
@cuneytaksakallli Says:
People think putting sth into the orbit is about elevation, but it is mostly about speed. Most of the fuel is used to gain velocity that enables stayin in the orbit.
@peted5217 Says:
Basically, 2000yo Chinese Fireworks Rocket Technology
@IamTHEONLYgus532 Says:
Also, the Earth’s rotation is faster the closer you get to the Equator.
@JonathanbradleyT Says:
They used to be for science and beneficiary for the people, now its just wotld dominance 😂
@chandansingh9294 Says:
But isnt all places on equator will have better boost? Florida is about 30’ off the equator…
@PhillipRoss-r6p Says:
Oh boy 🤦‍♂️
@r0llingw00ds7 Says:
Also it is in the usa
@Jacobsen-i4s Says:
Julius Verne ?
@1spyfinder Says:
Because Florida man cannot fail with fireworks‼️🚀
@igintell7295 Says:
SOOO one valid reason? Not mentioning longitude and latitude for orbital accuracy being near the center of rotation...... BUT YES TWO REASONS. Only Florida unbelievably moves that quick!!
@IMCODERED Says:
The first "very good" reason is true not only in Florida.
@MarcMoisan Says:
Florida is also the closest place to the Equator in continental USA. And the European Space Agency have their launch in French Guiana for similar reasons.
@OliveHello Says:
Isn't the ground moving to the east everywhere on earth ? So that 1rst reason is kinda not making sense
@doms6741 Says:
I used think there was a literal window in the atmosphere there.
@robderaaij5003 Says:
The best location to launch rockets is likely Canary Islands. but the logistics are more challenging
@PhuongNguyen-bz4mi Says:
2nd derail is a great one. Let’s not crash into anything.

We launch because Chuck Norris
