The reason is that machines only have the equivalent of human inner experience like – mind, intellect, memory, imagination, and identity. Machines don’t have (as yet anyway), a first person experience, ‘The Subject’, like ‘I am’.
If shown say a book, machine experience of it would be – ‘a book is seen’. Whereas, human experience would be – ‘a book is seen, I see the book’.

This myth is seen in India also among the so called "rationalist" who deny God factor. Indian sages and rishis never had laboratories to discover things.
