Well, whwen I was in school 60 years ago, we learned about him and dynamite, as well as giving his fortune to researhers, doctors and peace accords , the last in our own country, even if he was a Swede. (Swedes weren't held in a very high esteem those days).
So, I think that most Norwegians and Swedes know some more than the prizes, which by the way also stipulates:' during the last year', which it amost never is. He surely did not mean it to be the jippo it is today, just deciding, ant wire the money, there was nothing about medals, the king, dinner or whatever, so we wre taught he needed this prize not as post-life marketing, but maybe more as redemption

People that consider themselves great, in the egotistical sense, people like Donald Trump, want to leave their mark on the world so that people will remember them. Nobel put his wealth in trust to fund the annual Nobel Peace Prizes. Donald Trump is more the junk yard dog that runs around leaving it's mark on everything they can. But the principle is the same. More honorable people are remembered after their deaths by monuments constructed and placed prominently where they can be seen and respected. Nobel, and currently Trump, have created their own 'monuments', anticipating correctly that they would not be remembered fondly if they didn't create a positive image for themselves. That will never happen in Trump's case. No body remembers a junk yard dog fondly.

What troubles me is, when "fortune" wants to set a perspective, it will take the title of Merchant of death and change it to peace prize inventor. No one remembers him for his inventions but for one act. It is either a brilliant marketing move or a planned narrative building technique.
