Excellent documentary. I watched it years ago. So great to see it again. Mobutu was evil personified. My heart goes out to all who suffered and lost their lives under his brutal and heartless regime.

Mobutu held the country togethor..lets give credit where its due..since he was ousted that country has never known peace...yes he was not perfect and many African presidents during his time were like or worse than him some of whom are still in power today.......every country in africa had freedom heroes who were betrayed by their own....patrice isnt an exception
@bwettebob442 Says:
Americans ,French and Belgiums sourced this Mobutu autocracy.And they have continued the same across Africa even up to date.

@chahenza Says:
It is always painful for parents to bury their children. For Mobutu to bury two sons within 2 years it was a big blow and immense loss and suffering. But why do people always blame death on the supernatural or witchcraft or sacrifices. Historians talk of both Nyiwa and Konga Mobutu died from HIV/AIDS complications. If true why blame gri gri or witchcraft?

Later abandoned by his allies and left to die in a foreign country , never wanted in his home land 😢

I watched this yesterday for the umpteenth time (on the 64th anniversary of the assassination of Lumumba). I can never get over Lumumba’s dangerous naivety in choosing the sly Mobutu to head the army.
@mayinjaernest334 Says:
Same will be written of museveni
@heron310 Says:
Fantasizing about Lumumba is delusional, most of African leaders who showed hope turned out to be greedy despots, in a highly volatile and difficult country like Congo it's hard to see how an inexperienced dude like Lumumba could turn out a saint perhaps death gave him honour he wouldn't have obtained when alive

Mobutu, the worst thing that ever happened to Congo Kinshasa. Until today, Congo hasn't recovered..
@chiifavour Says:
To think he killed Lumumba and ousted casavubu for the reasons that he became so much guilty of ….and was trying to justify them
@Kaleghoul Says:
Anyone have the footage of the 1983 parade featured at exactly 1:10:20?
@davieskamanda6622 Says:
Starting 1:40:15 onwards Mobutu began to realize how useless money and power really was. It's like he wanted to be a different kind of person, but the damage was already done. You can tell the loneliness had got to him, realizing that his fake foreign friends did not want to associate with him anymore. So desperate he was for company that he resorted to strolling around the villages in his vehicle to get some love and attention. Money and power do not mean anything; how you treat your fellow humans does.

@mariusaka1042 Says:
Unfortunately, Mobutu didn't pay for his betrayal that lead to Patrice Lumumba's death, he should be arrested for all the atrocities he committed. Mobutu just left the country and went into exile in Morocco where he died, and that was a natural death. Mobutu was a curse for Africa.
@Footballblitz21 Says:
This should serve as a reminder to those African leaders that think they are immortal.

Do we really have documentary movies for European tyrants apart from Hitler? I think there's usually a lot of biasness when it comes to Africa, the depiction these people want to portray. As much as some African dictators were so evil and wicked we haven't seen enough from other continents too.

Those who call themselves western democracies helped establish and promote one of the most despotic most brutal dictatorships in Africa ... African tyrants cannot live without former colonial power weapons
