I don't see the surplus for the mechanism as a disadvantage. Contrary to most other knives, you can comfortably place your thumb over the exact point for hig pressure and good handling while carving.
@wyomins Says:
Now make it rubber powered!
@nakedinvader8951 Says:
that would be useful for a utility knife, very nice for wire cutting and so on.
@nicolasllop7752 Says:
Still looking forward to this!!
@TheHolyOnes33 Says:
Make it with 2 gears and make the second gear the action gear and then you wouldn't need to have the handle extend past the pivot point.
@JonStarrett78 Says:
Could you ise somthing more round as the rack and then make it lock like a bolt action?
@Xarwid Says:
Joerg. Use centimeters please.
@jkattau9 Says:
I feel like a factory could make everything smaller, which would take care of a lot of the issues you mentioned.

I really enjoy this channel, your inventions and consistency wows me to come back again and again.

Another triumph Her Sprave!
@buckarooholiday Says:
A finger choil would work well, since the mechanism extends over the cutting path and that part of the edge is useless. Especially, if the blade were lengthened
@AstroBananna Says:
How about a worm gear so it auto locks against the gears. Also maybe a tiny battery and motor, electric :)
@CiastoToKlamstwo Says:
You could add some kind of a spring that always tries to close the blade and a frame lock, it should be simple to implement, but would require a good, steel frame to support this
@charlesurrea1451 Says:
You can use a roller chain in place if the rack. The line of the back of the blade meeting the handle would negate any hilt function.

I’d be so proud if I cut my own gear train with files… he’s so cool
@sanjaymatsuda4504 Says:
Perhaps if you made the pinion a bit wider than the knife, and engaged it with something like a miniature bike chain, you could have an overall shorter handle.

@LiliumCruorem Says:
I wish you were allowed to tinker around with firearms in your country. I have a strong feeling that you'd love it and come up with some interesting concepts.
@icefire5799 Says:
Make the thing open and lock in two actions so i can carry it around in germany if it every comes that far.
@Onemoarblockplz Says:
Jorge, have you considered curving the rack, with a semicirclular path? Reducing the length of backing on the forward knife? Bringing the button closer to the front of the pommel?
@Onemoarblockplz Says:
LET ME SHOW YOU IT'S FEATURES AAHAAHAAH
@Ty-bz7zx Says:
Awesome. Always fun too. GJ
@DerrillGuilbert Says:
Fastest way to open a knife is the zip tie mod...
@sebwiers1 Says:
@JoergSprave - I think you could put the sliding rack wherever you want if you add some intermediate gears. Obviously that has its drawbacks, the worst probably being handle thickness since the gears would likely not all be in a shared plane. A good alternative might be a cable and cam or chain and sprocket setup, again with the goal or allowing the control slider to be located wherever you like and not needing to extend past the blade pivot.
@polygondon Says:
tony stark prison shank
@piousminion7822 Says:
Add another gear( or 2) to allow the rack to be placed farther down. :)

Hey I see that Samson! I got the green one, love it. And this rack and pinion idea is great. In fact, I'm surprised no one has done this yet.

Dear, Spiderco please commission this man.
@Imageloading... Says:
I want one
@heinzditer7286 Says:
You could add a second gear to the knife that sits behind the main gear. Then the knife would look more elegant.
@theawesomer Says:
Really cool design. Hope to see a production version soon!
@ramonnajar1974 Says:
This one looks hella dangerous without any flick paddle to protect your fingers 🩸🤕
@michalberanek2783 Says:
The knob could have a spring in it so it pops out when opened and you have to push it back in. But maybe the opposite could work better, you could even add a spring that closes the knife - super safe system I could see on, say, a utility model Serpent
@LilLegyiths Says:
I’d be in on a kickstarter for this thing. Really cool
@Drunken_Hamster Says:
Hey, I dig the smooth 50fps filming, but I must recommend you lower your shutter speed to 1/60th of a second to improve (add) the motion blur. Also, be sure to activate shutter priority mode for the auto-exposure so that setting can't automatically adjust the shutter speed and mess up your motion blur.

Hi, from Southern California! Love your work, Brüder! 💪❤️👍

Absolutely awesome!!
@JamesFromTexas Says:
That's really cool. I'd buy one!
@Trindal Says:
I love knives that open and close in a unique way. I have several auto open/close knives and find them incredibly useful. Depending on the style, size, and which state (U.S.A.). I can carry them like a standard folding pocket knife. Are you allowed to carry any sort of Automatic knives where you are? CRKT makes a few unique opening knives. The Provoke is my recent purchases, but they have/had one called the Rollock that I liked… I nicked myself a few times just fiddling around with it.
@moonstoned420 Says:
I'm imagining a utility knife version with a box cutter blade, and a button that either slides or pivots into notches in the handle, locking it into different positions for different purposes. It could even fold out far enough to be a scraper if it used a regular utility razor
@BrettDalton Says:
Add a second gear and you can shift the rack backwards or the knife.
