It is interesting that the Lead Ball achieved superior penetration passing completely through the plywood where the Steel Ball did not do as well as the Steel Ball did not fully penetrate the plywood!

Just kidding. You did it the smart way that is more accurate and fun to shoot, I'm sure. I'm just jealous because I can't afford one.
I also appreciate that you used black powder rather than a smokeless bp substitute for a more geniune experience.
I have seen the percussion version of this and didn't realize there was a flintlock version. I wonder how easy it is to get good quality replacement flints. Of course, in the zombie apocalypse, you would be able to forage it naturally rather than rely on manufactured perc caps.

Black powder and sawed short barrels dont quite mix, you lose alot of velocity since the black powder burns alot slower than the modern nitro rounds

Black powder burns a bit weird. I would guess that at 120grains a significant proportion of the powder is ejected from the barrel before it properly ignites.

The wad cap on the shot is also important. And it should fit tightly. Fishing sinkers make good lead shot

The type and how tight the wad is between the charge and the shot has a lot to do with the speed but the weight has much to do with Penetration. Make sure you wash the barrel out good with hot water and Detergent after you use it and dry it and coat in in heavy oil. Black powder is safe to store in your house. I have all kinds in my house as I reload ammo. Just store it in a dark dry place. Gatlin shotgun was great
