How a slinky falls in slow motion #shorts

💾

This is not just true of slinkies - if you release a steel rod from the top, the top really starts falling before the bottom. If you hit a tennis ball with a racket, a wave has to travel from the strings to your hand before you feel it - and the ball is well on its way to the net by this time. If you hit a golf ball, the ball is well on its way to the hole before you can feel it. Rigid bodies aren't truly rigid and understanding this is essential to understanding the way the world works

This is an excerpt from a video I made 10 years ago - seemed like the perfect thing to show in vertical format. I was unaware Action Labs had recently made a video about the same thing. A regular video should be out Friday/Saturday this week.

The domino analogy is oddly perfect. 😳

Awesome experiment! Do you know if the same effect hapens if the Slinky has waved shape windings? Like a ball spring. Greets!

DEREK! Man, I hope you see this. I'm fascinated to know what happens if the opposite is done. Take a spring that has spaces in the helix at equilibrium. Stand it on a surface so that it compresses under its own weight force. Now make the surface disappear. Does the top stay stationary until equilibrium is again reached?

But.... i- what?! Gravity isn't gravity-ing

It’s defying gravity

It's called Slinkinomics.

But wouldn't it meet in the middle if was in space then yes and this brings Space travel to mind what am I missing universe

Amazing
@alucardlord4876 Says:
So this rejects einstein's understanding of gravity? He said that the ground is accelerating upwards, not the objects falling down

This looks like it’s breaking physics 😂😂😂 when I’m staring at the part that’s not moving

Grown ups playing with slinky's. I guess the child inside stays forever.
@ZahidRabbaniOrange Says:
slincy is fallind but bottom to top part is pulled because of elasticity this extra energy tends the bottom part rest until all stress of slincy not remaine❤ until it stress on slincy breath out

why does gravity not act on down portion

So twisting waves is the main reason , springs does that

When u could see the slinky rotate it was making cool looking mandala/flower
@CrystaluxRBLX Says:
Issac newton isn’t Issac newtoning 😂
@elliotfinn Says:
But can you add weight to the end? According to this explanation you could because that weight falling would require more pulling on the slinky, but where does that end?
@okayge_ Says:
Shrödingers slinky, its both falling and not falling at the same time

Bro I’ve got a five 10 meters slinky I made and dropped it it stopped 5seconds in the air bro it’s crazy my brother tried touching the very last one and it just collapse when he touches it❤❤ it’s very cool though

Its the bloody JEE Qs.

I prefer this---real, tangible phenomenon that can't be examined from a truly scientific standpoint--over imaginary concepts such as black holes and matter bending space-time.

Imagine if there was a loop... what would happen?
@simonandersson7067 Says:
I hope this gets patched soon. Litterally gamebreaking
@anonydun82fgoog35 Says:
OK, so what is the "speed of slinky" with which waves propagate inside the spring, and I'm guessing it's different for every kind of spring.

@fraizie6815 Says:
I mean it's like setting the bottom on the ground. It'll collapse until it hits the ground. A solid thing won't do that. So technically it should be intuitive
