For over 25 years, I’ve been testing something interesting about how easily the human mind can fall into a “numbers trap.”
When I used to sell items in a shop, whenever a customer finished buying and asked, “How much is it?”, I would deliberately give them a number first: 70 or 700, depending on the approximate size of their purchase.
The interesting part was what happened next.
Almost every customer would immediately take out their cash and start counting, as if their brain had accepted the number.
Then, after a few seconds, they would suddenly stop and ask:
“Wait… how much did you say?”
Only then would I give them the actual total.
I watched this happen again and again for years.
What fascinated me was that 70 and 700 seemed particularly effective.
I experimented with other numbers to see whether the same thing would happen, but they didn’t seem to produce the same reaction.
Of course, this wasn’t a controlled scientific experiment, but after seeing the same behavior repeatedly over many years, it made me curious about why these particular numbers seemed so easy for people’s minds to accept initially and then almost immediately forget.

The very fact that this video aired probably inadvertently skewed any future guesses when asked to pixk a number between 1 and 100. People will remember this video and say 37 just to be a dick.
