He really DOES NOT KNOW what he is talking about. I was struggling to have enough protein in my vegetarian diet for muscle gain after an injury. I had to start eating fish to finally gain muscle. Even if you are in full health, you need to make sure you always have multiple protein sources in a meal as a vegetarian, even worse as a vegan. I do believe it can easily turn unhealthy. My best friend who was vegan was eating like 10g of protein per day. Scary.
