The problem with your experiment, is that you're still using your hands. When you squish the ball with your fist, you are moving and spreading around your own body heat. While you are still holding the other ball with your hand, it's not being spread around with the motion so it's not being heated up quite as fast.
I still believe friction can cause the liquid oceans, but there's gotta be a better way to show it without the use of an external heat source
