How long before someone uses this modern Leonardo da Vinci's works to produce the next technological device? ...like a miniature version that can collect trash, oil, radiation, carbon, ect... Using the most efficient conversion of occurring "energy" available to preform the simple task of "collection". Might not be smart enough to take care of the mess, but it will at least consolidate it to some degree... we should be able to figure out the rest after that.

Bless this man and creation. We need more of people like this and simply just enjoy their creation

FYI. I deduced what Adam's missed translation was: To translate Theo's G link (36.7) to Adam's H link (79.4), Adam should have multiplied by 2.0 which would have equaled 73.4.

They feel like something I'd see in a Ghibli movie and I kinda wanna treat them like living creatures

Imagine those young people continuing this work through the eons ahead.... We will end up with self-aware, replicating strandbeests taking over the world!
@KimJong-UnOfficialDPRK Says:
I love how theres a negligible yet existent chance that aliens look exactly like strandbeests and tried to send people to earth but they died but they consider the mission a success because they think strandbeests are their people.

I want to say something intelligent and the best I can come up with is this reminded me of watching a crappy Target plastic patio table walk across my patio because the wind somehow created this weird shuffling skittering walk across the concrete- smooth as silk.

I remember a science fiction writer called Jack Vance. In his novels there were often semi-organic machines. These craftworks reminded me of that.

I'd be careful about calling it "evolution." Yes they do mimic life but there is at least one intelligent designer behind the creation and the optimization, including the creation of the "selection" computer program. If anything, this points more to a God than to naturalistic evolution. Saying they "evolved feet" personalizes the crafts in a way that introduces an unnecessary evolutionary bias. I do understand that you accept evolution. However, the majority of people don't investigate the troubles of evolutionary theory enough to realize that it is completely insufficient and flawed as a theory. (You can challenge me all you want.) Rather than evolution, I'd simply say something like "specialized feet for sand were designed and incorporated into strandbeests." Afterall, they would never have developed new features (such as flight) if no none crafted wings!

@YoruDusk Says:
this is all real guys, no AI involved, purely human handmade, just wanna say this
@trivialtrav Says:
It's crazy how someone can have the intelligence to create these amazing works of engineering, but still come up with ridiculous illogical ideas like kicking up sand to somehow build dunes to protect the country from rising sea levels.
@MisterVOID-OUT Says:
The Strandbeest has been a thing since I was 4, and I'm just now learning about it? Goes to show how the finest art goes underappreciated (at least until the creator passes.)

Evolution driven by math. This moves us closer to understanding nature, one step at a time.
@Logan-n3d5h Says:
Maybe a gigantic torsion spring for energy storage? It stores and releases rotational energy? I feel like that'd be a lot simpler, smaller, and more efficient.
@monty2020-i5d Says:
Such smart people. Amazing.
@jeremybrouard8485 Says:
Am I missing something? Sand dunes do nothing to stop groundwater. If the sea level rises, these dunes built by kicked up sand simply become sand bars which have very temporary ability to resist wave energy. Dig the same spot on the beach during low and high tide to see what I'm wondering about, you'll find the ground water level consistent with the ocean's. Fantastic as an art project, and tons of fun to watch the selective process of human input influencing the Strandbeest's "evolution". All the other reasons are valid - and the "13 holy numbers" is a great contribution that I think already immortalizes him.
@Taggartize Says:
How can he just leave the zip tie ends hanging like that?
@Lava_kg Says:
Looks like something straight out of studio ghibli
@HandOnTheGat Says:
Anyone who thinks this is cool should check out "Last Oasis". You get to build these things and fight people in trible warfare/wooden mechwars. Its one of my all time favs.
@gettinreal7627 Says:
Complexity of design demands high maintenance. Only the human body has the ability to repair and maintain itself (because of intelligent design).
