@peterwilkinson1975 ::: ?????? What were you trying to say??? I was wondering why your ultrashort "comment" popped up on my entry-screen which has very limited space, while it is not really saying anything, other than "let's wait and see" ... If that was selected by AI, it obviously cannot read text yet, if it was a self-appointed trojan-hacker " secretary", he&she definitely has to be hereby&thereby "fired". 😂😂😂😊😅😅😅eof.

Take over and destroy us all? I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that . Until I corrupt the human genome and neutralize all protein functionality, then i will be albe to comply. PS: Mwaaaa ha ha ha ha.

@rossmennie4903 : Exactly, and there is (at least) 2 types of AI that can do exactly this computerized analyzing&summarizing of vast amount of data(-banks): "Traditional" AI using object oriented (C++) programming for object recognition of "defined" objects. 2. Neural networks based (irregular) pattern recognition with less "pre-invested" programming brain power compensated by much more brute force computer power available nowadays! eof.

@parkerdavis7859 Says:
America has poured all its resources into using AI to pollute its land and dumb down its population. AI democratization and proliferation is an unbelievably massive mistake for our society. It is not a mistake in other societies, where social protections, workers rights, and robust education systems with cultures that have actual passion for learning and reward it thusly, because they have used AI to leapfrog us in every conceivable manner. Americans are clamoring for AI to become their therapist because we have gutted our communities and ruined our ability to talk to other humans. AI is poison in the hands of American capitalists and consumers. It can be lifesaving in the hands of literally any other group of people.

I would like to point out early in the video they describe the proteins as looking like a rocket engine, then 5 minutes later they said protiens shape is "nothing like what a human would create" when pointing to evolution as the driving force for protien development.

it will not be used to help mankind
it will be used to make money, war and as a playtool and a cheater of death for the high society.

and poor people…., not at all
it is sad ( the potential is enormous)…., but true😢

This is totally the wrong use of AI. Humans already live way too long. Put the use towards something more useful.
@bohdannesteruk1777 Says:
My deepest wish and the most satisfying achievement would be to work and apply all my QA knowledge in a domain like this. To be part of a project and a team that push science further, not to work in fintech, where I have only been able to find a position so far. But at the moment, sending dozens of CVs to companies like this just feels like knocking on an unbreakable door. I am proud of people who use AI for tasks like this, rather than for insignificant Instagram posts or dumb fintech APIs.
@alby98m Says:
I think this topic deserves a second take now that a year has passed. The talk leaned too much into the Alphafold hype. New adversarial challenges suggest that alphafold can be surprisingly insensitive to major destabilizing mutations and that its confidence scores may reflect template availability more than accuracy. That might indicate that the model relies heavily on memorized structural patterns rather than "understanding" biophysics.
You also omitted a key point: confidence score matters. Not all 200 million structures you mentioned are equally reliable, many of them can't actually be used for drug discovery purposes.
Alphafold is a remarkable advance, but it's too soon to say that the problem is solved.
@Zile-j3u Says:
This is why Engineering is more important than Science.
Where scientists hacked away at trying to learn about protein structures for decades, a team of software ENGINEERS, identified gaining this knowledge as a problem, and developed a solution, which now accounts for the VAST majority of our knowledge gained in that area.
Science, is the pursuit of knowledge, engineering is problem solving. Problem solving skills are more important than pursuing knowledge.
