Hi! Bro. Foreigners in R.S.A. are bread winners for their families back home and for their own upkeep in S.A. The foreigners have no safety net, i.e. not relative to give you food and shelter whilst you are not working because of the strike. The landlord won't understand your plight of striking when rent is due at month end so you have to work for the rent. Most importantly, industrial action or strike is socio-political hot potato for a foreigner in a host country as it's viewed with political eyes as economic sabotage. Foreigners did not come for political agitation as they are most vulnerable as non-citizens and are likely to be deported for taking part in industrial action.
Simply, they are caught between a rock and a hard place. The same goes for foreign students at S.A. universities. The local law will deport you if you join in varsity strikes. So the foreigner is not in an enviable position.
On the doctors' strike, i believe they have a right to strike as long as no deaths result from their actions. The hippocratic oath is primary.
