make a slug in aluminium with the exact bore and "ram" it down like a muzzleoader

@auroraRealms Says:
For fishing, it probably needs a barbed tip with a spool of line. It also seems that the line should be taught when the bolt if fired. If there is slack in the line, once the slack like use used up, it will probably just break the line before it starts taking line from the spool.

Where to buy ??
@CommingFaith Says:
That cost cressi cost 60 bucks in the us so you get something more powerful than a 9mm and a crossbow for that cheap
@keithhall2649 Says:
Question? Do you have to pump it up every time you take a shot?
@Pioneer_the_deep Says:
A trident 🔱 head is definitely a must 😂
@MrGsteele Says:
This Cressi model is an enclosed piston design, and I remember using a closed piston speargun back in the '70's. It seemed that O-rings and such were always a complicating factor - one that led me on my own journey. I built - using a flea-market, used Kidde CO2 fire extinguisher with a tank about a foot long, a few plumbing fittings, and a length of 1/2" copper supply line - a compact open model that, using CO2 as its propellant (it was a fire extinguisher, after all), really did the job. The copper supply line fit snugly over the threaded boss that the extinguisher's horn screwed into, like it was made for the purpose.
I used short lengths of hardware store metal rod, hand-threaded - on one end for a commercial spear gun head, and on the other end a washer and rubber seal, held in place by a castle nut, for my spears. The typical spear gun sliding collar with trailing arms was used to center the spear in the tubing in front, and to attach the retaining line; the rear end of the spear was centered and retained by the tight-fitting rubber washer. Deadly accurate.
Very simple, and with the large surface area of the washer against which the CO2 pressure bore, the power was easily enough to drive the spear well through a striped bass at a significant distance underwater. I made it neutrally buoyant with small side bolsters of styrofoam. On land, the force of the CO2 from the muzzle was enough to move hedges like a gale does from a distance of 15 feet; under water, the force would put the metal rod through a 2x8" board if I used a steel rod, with its abundant of momentum and sectional density. Aluminum spears worked as well - very fast - but I stuck mostly with steel.
I liked CO2 instead of compressed air, because the pressure was constant at 830 psi; compressed air pressure, although it starts higher, drops from the first trigger pull, and the Kidde extinguisher and trigger valve was designed for CO2 pressures in the first place. A refill was cheap, and lasted most of the summer for about 5 bucks back then, and the hydrostatic tank test was easy to pass for CO2 pressure.
There was no need whatever for the 2,000+ psi pressure of a scuba tank to fire the spears, given the 180 lbs of thrust against the rear washer; it outshot a triple-strand Arbalete that I had NO PROBLEM. In fact, I had to use a gum rubber strain relief on the retaining line to stop the momentum of the spear from pulling the gun out of my hand when the spear reached the end of its allowed travel (you always use a retaining line in my area; visibility is limited, and you could kill another diver just outside where your visibility ended if you didn't). The line length varied with area visibility.
There's no question in my mind whatsoever that it was powerful enough to run a spear clear through a shark, even though the gun was very compact. I also liked that you could modulate the trigger pull to slow the spear down for slower and less muscular, or thinner, fish. A tautog (blackfish) is mush compared to a big striped bass; that makes the gun very versatile, and usable around rocks that would smash a spearhead impacting at full speed.
It's really enjoyable to go hunting afield with something that you've made with a Rustoleum yellow primer-sprayed gadget made of tubing, alligator clamped to a tank full of CO2, with a pistol grip at the end of a 90 degree elbow; very steampunk, yet a lethal weapon under water that puts fish on the table dependably and cheaply.

Omg make it shoot slugs out a barrel with the cartridges! Aea was sapposed so have a whole line of semi auto pistols in fhe 150fpe power range rifles both semi auto bolt action and full auto whole website prices stats everyrhunf then just stopped when covid hit and no one ever talks about it to get it going again sadly.
Well The defender 2 got me 123fpe max 5500psi fill 4in 457barrel with a sabot 357 125g slug. The modoc used a cartrdige at only 3000psi and less volume and was sending 81grain 9mm slugs out a 28in barrel at 1200fps. It was able to do around 200fpe. So like even with the defender carts with a proper 24in barrel at 5500psi you should get around 200fpe. With these carts here you could really do some stuff. Throw 2 10 to 12in long .457/410 barrels side by side or over under on that pistol and you'll probably be able to reach some 165fpe marks at least. Like and with a longer barrel in a smaller caliber like .357 using a sabot to shoot .308cal center slug could pump out some numbers. Something with a 28in barrel using almost half the pressure and around 1 third the volume was doing 1200+fps in 9mm 81grain slugs. What you think something would be capable of when you have double the pressure and almost 3x the volume?

hello Joerg. Years ago i use to spear fish with the air power spear gun. For unwanted close encounters with the " smiles" (shark) ,I had a machinist friend make me a "powerhead" to fit 1 of my spears .12 gauge shot gun shell .Wondering would that be to top heavy for your home made bolt action air spear gun? Great job on your design !
@BobBobbert-x1y Says:
Swap a .357-457 20in or longer barrel in the cessi scuba pistol, throw a body over it to make it a bullpup. With 24-28in barrel it'll be nice and small still but it'll have A LOT more power than any other thanks to the massive volume of the cartridge
@lawrymccarthy3292 Says:
Nice design Joerg but I am wondering how does the compressed air get from the pieced burst disk at the rear of the cartridge to propel the spear at the front?
@GonFission Says:
8mm Scuba lol
@Grymbaldknight Says:
It would be amazing to see a version with more than one barrel, as a repeater, since the capacity to fire multiple shots without reloading would be useful against multiple intruders. Potentially this would require more than one trigger, and may need to be break-action rather than bolt-action, but I think it's eminently doable.

@reallonghaultrucker9348 Says:
Why aren't you making an example in how to pump the speargun
@Paul._.C._.B Says:
My big problem with it is that in most zombie situations they still hear, so a compressor and pressurized gass could be problematic. Also the more manipulations you have to do for a reload is a big problem

@jameswoodard4304 Says:
The original is still better in my opinion, because it only requires physical manpower to load rather than pre-charged loads. Of course Joerg's is quicker to reload if you are prepared and have a few on hand. I also like the silent simplicity of the original which retains the air instead of having expended it and having to recharge it.
Hmmm...I think it's a toss-up regarding above-water use while the original is still clearly better for underwater as the man himself stated.
I'm just glad someone has the time, resources, and interest to do what this wonderful man does! Another very fun and interesting video, sir.

@sn0wchyld Says:
not sure I'd want a 5000psi canister blowing up (even in this controlled manner) under water with my ears only an arms length away... big benefit of the commercial unit is the gas stays controlled and its just a piston... great work as always but high pressure discharges can be pretty dangerous all on their own.
