One time, i am the historical reconstructor, we were in the forest on a big game about 14th century. So it was windy in the evening, and then in the night it was 5 below zero, in 9th may. We slept in light tent, and had no warm clothes. So we slept in our armor) It was not nice, but intresting exp.

@MattCarriker if you see eyes reflecting back at you while shining your light at night, just keep this in mind… green/yellow means prey, red/orange means chamber a round.. Also, it’s kinda gross, but it works, but if you urinate in multiple areas in somewhat close proximity around your campsite, it wards off predatory animals during the night.

The issue with the firestarter is bc you're using the tiny end 😅
I'd shave a little off, especially if it had a magnesium strip like some do, and *actually* shower them with as big of sparks as you can manage, so they explode after they leave the surface into more, smaller sparks. Lean the scraper away from you and scrape quickly, very close to your material.

MREs just kinda hit different when it was super cold all night and you shiver forever. The calories and the heat are super welcome after a cold night. Something else that tastes good while camping that otherwise doesn’t taste good, is instant coffee
