Bears are very elusive but you will find tracks...we lived in Northern Cali 8 years...always saw the bear and cougar prints...never saw a bear...did see an old male cougar everyday when we walked to school sitting on a hill of mostly rocks under a tree. Did find a cougar or families in caves we checked out but never saw the ones who walked near our home.

Matt my buddy, you don't need to worry about a mythical Texas brown bear.... however those "dog" prints were not made by a dog. the toes all look to be the same size which indicates feline/cat prints. you more certainly have a bobcat/cougar/mountain lion on the property; and its dragging dear off to a safe feasting site. also start checking for skeletal remains hung in tree limbs. large cats like to use trees as a refrigerator.

Insulation is one key to the cold 🥶 I’m full time RVer and mine lowest is 44 with house r-19 insulation from factory
Locate furnace see if it old version an can be upgraded or get a electric space heater recommend over heat protection an more safety features it less propane while shore power an does good for extra heat ( u can also probably check the heat vents and see if they r dirty or blocked mines in the floor don’t know air stream
