All of this is based on assuming that this one reaction is going to be how energy would be produced but the concept of fusion reactors is to create a stable semi-selfsustaining environment for fusion to occur and the presented reaction is not what would be used in a finished reactor (the 1 shot per second would ideally create the energy seen on Wikipedia, and would only need to be at max energy consumption when creating the environment). While fusion itself is not self sustaining the only challenge would theoretically be to create the required environment and maintain it which would require a lot of energy but could produce a positive energy outcome. Additionally fusion would be a lot cleaner, the required elements are a lot more frequent than for fission and as you mentioned, there is a lot less material needed for the same amount of energy.
I don't disagree with most of the video but it seems that the potential of fusion reactors isn't properly conveyed, unless it is near impossible to actually create such a reactor in reality.

Fusion *is* safer than any other energy generation way we know - in the event of total failure of containment, the reactor will dump its current energy into its water jacket (i would be very surprised if fusion ever gets shielded by anything than water - there are very few materials on earth that can handle the neutron radiation of that magnitude for long), create a steam explosion, and then stop fusing, because nuclear fusion cannot occur naturally without it being inside of a cloud of hydrogen about three times bigger than, uhh, Jupiter.
And nuclear scaremongering has nothing to do with it. Yes, making fusion explode is miles easier than making it explode safely within a structure that can capture that heat.
