If there is a "higher power", it has nothing to do with any existing religion, like the 2000yr old Jewish zombie worship, death/resurrection cult, that promises everlasting life, if you just believe said Jewish zombie (died & rose again) is the son of their god. It's likely more like, science is how, God is why, and that a universal power ultimately created matter, in order for evolution and other processes to form that matter eventually into conscious organisms, all in order to know itself and be known. Or it's all just random chaos? and because we are the ones who developed consciousness, we are going to be the one's thinking we must be special, and that there's some great meaning to it all, but any life, given sufficient time in order to develop the ability to ponder ourselves, would ask the same questions. Humans, struggle to fathom the vast depth of time that has been, so find it easier to think there's some grand design to it all, not just Earth festering for billions of years. Evolution has tried millions of forms of life, 99% of them dying out and leaving no living descendants. We were just really far in the future when higher primates, other human species and ultimately Homo sapiens, came about. That's all. All of that blows the religious mind, and it's just easier and way more comfortable to believe a god whose interested in us, and will give us a nice place to go after, created us and loves us. It's just wishful thinking for those afraid of death and that their life, loved ones, actions, memories and thoughts etc., must mean something, and not fade away into nothing at all. I get the pull and it would be nice, but I'd rather live in a harsh truth, than a highly comforting, meaningful falsehood. The fact of the matter is, gods, spirits and ghosts, do not exist. No matter how holy. So any faith system based on them, is bunk. Sorry.
