I'm impressed that Lewis lays such deep foundations for his argument. It's a principle worth remembering: go as deep as you can in the time or space available to you.
I guess he could just have said, "The overiding moral principle is to do the lesser of two evils." But then he'd have to demonstrate why that is true, and how that applies to the debate.
