I am afraid that there is no good solution for this problem in democracy. I see in my own country how much foreighn propaganda can gradually control considerable part of public, which in democracy means controlling considerable part of elections.
When invasion of Russia to Ukraine started, people were pretty much united on condemming the invasion and supporting goverment in act of support for Ukraine. Slowly social media had more and more Russian propaganda. Russians even directly paid to some people making anti-government, anti-west and anti-Ukrainian protests. How big is the problem? The most populist and pro-Russian party will have a lot of support in the next election. I am affraid, that support of Ukraine by our next government will be low. Because in my country we have important weapon industry, that shift will help Russian in their offensive. If Russians win, my country will be in range of missles used now in conflict.
Russians learned to abuse democracy and rights it gives to citizens. We stand on a crossroad. We can let people have free speech and let foreighn propaganda flood our social media, or we can try to combat foreighn propaganda and admit, that free speech is not really an option in a time of war.

Being in cybersec, I know CISA plays a pretty critical role in our national security, I read their security advisories multiple times a week. Other governments do like to play disinformation games, but it is alerting to hear/read this.

Disinformation is a huge problem. AI bots pump out tons of click bait fake science videos that deceive kids on YouTube all the time. Without a robust k-12 public education system to teach kids critical thinking skills, it will be harder and harder to fight the spread of misinformation. I actually think it's important for the government to support *we the people's* effort to fight this issue, but relying on corporations that have a definite profit motive agenda is disturbing.
