Is the New Testament historically reliable?

????

We know the New Testament is historically reliable because of the Criteria of Authenticity. Dr. Mike Licona explains the differences between a sympathetic and unsympathetic source as well as how we judge independent or dependent sources, all of which provide the proof that we need to know whether or not the New Testament is a factual document. ???? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????? The Gospels are significantly more reliable compared to other ancient documents of antiquity, but the problem skeptics have is with the miraculous, so it is just a presuppositional bias against miracles and the supernatural, i notice it is mostly not a problem for Muslims, Hindus, Satanists, Sorcerers etc. who convert to Christianity, since they are acquainted and open to the possibility of the supernatural but for naturalists and materialists it's extremely difficult.

The proof of the Bible, Quran and Torah are just very poor so much that you need faith to believe it's true. But not because you believe in something so much makes it true

Let's just be honest now. There is absolutely nothing written by anyone who could have possibly seen anything. Period! The average life span was 30 back then. You're telling me these books which he just said were written within 65 years of jesus dying were written by eyewitnesses? I hate to tell you this but that is impossible. That's just the first problem. Whoever wrote the gospels were highly literate Greek speakers and talented writers. The disciples of jesus could not read or write so exactly how could they have written this? The bottom line is that the fact that there is zero historical documentation from during or even near the life of jesus is beyond problematic to the authenticity of the entire story. Do you really think these major events described in the nt actually happened and nobody bothered recording it? Didn't anyone feel this to be newsworthy? The whole thing is just so absurd.
@lizadowning4389 Says:
If you use the same analogies, assumptions and falsehoods like "reliable eyewitness accounts" etc... then a multitude of gods are true, just as Bigfoot, Loch Ness monster etc... Studies have shown that mistaken eyewitness testimony accounts for about half of all wrongful convictions. And those aren't even several decades after the facts. The resurrection of Jesus was never witnessed. The women only saw an empty tomb, the body was gone. The only "proof" of the resurrection lies in "accounts of witnesses" stating Jesus "appeared" to them. If one accepts "proof" like that, every delusional person on this planet claiming a vision is a reliable witness to ... The gentlemen are of course avoiding the true problems with the gospels. If Mark really knew Peter and recorded his "testimony", he wouldn't have written some of the most obvious errors/contradictions in his gospel on Jewish tradition and ancient Palestinian geography. You don't go from Tyre, through Sidon to the sea of Galilee. Tyre: ancient Palestinian coastal town Sidon: ancient Palestinian coastal town, 30 miles north of Tyre along the same coast Sea of Galilee: 40 miles to the south-southeast of Tyre If you went from Tyre to the sea of Galilee, you'd be going straight down to the south-southeast, not up north (Sidon) Peter would have known that and would never have said that. Matthew and Luke saw that error and tried to correct it in their gospel. Mark writes on women divorcing their men. Under Jewish Talmuds that was not allowed. Only men could divorce their women. Peter, and every other Jew would have known that and would never "witness" that to Mark. Mark never spoke to Peter, wasn't from around nor contemporary.

the Hebrew word for heaven means the sky. So from the Bible auther point of view and his understanding of the world at the time, heaven was anything that was up. The clouds, the sun, the moon and the stars. It's important to remember, the Bible auther didn't know anything about a universe. He didn't know about Mars, Venus, or Meteors so we can't substitute our understanding of the universe with his lack of understanding of the universe. Heaven was whatever they saw from the ground's point of view. What did they think when they saw a tornado come down and destroyed things or lightning strikes in a Thunder storm? During that time they would think it was God related. If a tornado would had came down and destroyed canaan in the bible days, I'm pretty sure that would had made it into the Bible. God destroyed Canaan with a firey smoky funnel. The Bible auther would ask "why would God destroy that land" Just insert sin. Thousands of years later people believes that God sent what "we" know was a tornado to destroyed a piece of land because that land sinned a lot.

Matthew was written in Hebrew originally and his testimony is therefore probably much older than we thought. Watch “Hebrew Matthew” by Nehemiah Gordon.

It's still surprising to me that ppl make argument of multiple religions as proof that theres no God or Christianity is NOT true. How wd having only one religion in the whole world prove that God exists or that it's the true religion??? We can have an original of sth in d midst of million counterfeits: this does not prove that original does not exist. Not knowing which is the original still does not prove the original doesnt exist. God of christianity punishing ppl for sin in hell is no proof dt He does not exist or that He's a bad God. Govts have laws that punish offenders stimes capital punishment: it doesnt mean dt govt doesnt exist or that it's a bad govt. Being ignorant of dt law does not set aside the validity of the law.

Again the UTTER dishonesty and lack of integrity (or maybe just laziness) of Christians. Quoting Josephus, Tacitus and the other Roman historians all of whom REJECTED that Jesus , if he existed, was anything other than a man. Can any Christians on here who have read these Roman historians explain why these wealthy Christian apologists keep quoting them?

@friendyadvice2238 Says:
"For in Christ, the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form". The person Jesus Christ is God the Son himself incarnate. I personally find this the most amazing statement I have ever read. The Lord God himself became incarnate and took on human form just like us. Utterly Amazing!!!!!
@friendyadvice2238 Says:
People ask, who is Jesus Christ. The truth is truly and utterly amazing!!! Jesus Christ is "God the Son" himself, an Infinite eternal perfectly holy being, who has quite literally existed forever. "God the Father" himself sent his only son to live a human life and die on the cross so that "ALL who believe in him" can be saved. Our sin is "SO GREAT" that only God himself could pay the price for that sin, so that divine justice is satisfied. To put this in perspective, Jesus bore an individual "eternal punishment" for every person who will ever believe in him. May the Lord keep you safe.
@reynaldodavid2913Jo Says:
THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE GENUINENESS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT OR BOTH THE NEW AND OLD TESTAMENT... THE PROBLEM IS THE CORRUPTION DONE IN THE BIBLE AT THE VERY EARLY TIME... ESPECIALLY THE CORRUPTION OF SOME VERSES TO PROMOTE THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY.... WHICH CAN NEVER BE FOUND IN THE BIBLE.... YOU CAN NEVER FIND IN THE BIBLE THAT GOD IS COMPOSED OF THREE PERSONS... YOU CAN NEVER FIND IN THE BIBLE THE TERMS CO-EQUAL, CO-ETERNAL, OR CO-EXISTENT... YOU CAN NEVER FIND IN THE BIBLE THE TERMS: GOD THE SON OR GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT.... YOU CAN NEVER FIND IN THE BIBLE THAT SAYS JESUS IS BOTH GOD AND MAN... YOU CAN NEVER FIND IN THE BIBLE THE TERM GOD-MAN....
@sierraclark6129 Says:
“If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Now is the time to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Obey His commands and repent of your sins because Jesus is coming back soon. Tomorrow isn’t promised.

@-TheWordWasGod- Says:
I’ve said this before... just as the Word of God states, he is the potter and we are the clay. People who reject Christ attempt to switch the roles so they can make themselves a god and have control over their own lives. Because that doesn’t require a changed life and still allows them to live in willful sin. It’s a fear of accountability. They want to live the way they want to and don’t want to hear anything contrary to the desires of their heart. I still have yet to hear an atheist explain how the claim that “the Bible was written by men” has any basis when anything and everything they’ve ever read or chose to believe was written by men. And those same men did the same thing with people before them which also rejected Jesus Christ. Where is the evidence for evolution? I hear claims, I hear things like “the evidence is overwhelming”. But where is it? What is it? Animals are still here. Present. Today. And even if you believe we are an “ancestor” of monkeys or primates, why are there still monkeys and primates? Some of them evolved and then others chose not to? There are only women and men. To procreate we need both as God designed. You need the seed and you need the egg. After we evolved did we just “decide” that there would be male and female? We evolved into two genders and we just knew that’s the way it’s supposed to be? And to bring forth life we randomly had the idea to have intercourse, and not only that... but were randomly given the essential tools to be able to bring forth life? Our bodies are so intricately designed with specific purpose, meaning, and a will that God has preordained before us. Atheism is a faith position. No matter how you look at it. You are trusting and believing in whatever paper, article, book which was written( by a man) is indeed true. And you just run with it. Many things are proven true scientifically. But that’s because they already “were”. People simply discovered but a tiny amount of God’s genius. Science books don’t tell people to repent, and science also changes. God’s Word does not change, and people know that. So you can see their obvious bias against the Bible and how people try to desperately disprove the Word of God, which will never happen. And it’s also not a superior position to say “I don’t know where we come from and I don’t need to know”. I know people would love to believe that, but unfortunately to me personally it comes across as a false sense of humility. Because some, (not all) of the same people that say that, are the same people that will attempt to poke holes in your faith all while saying “I don’t know”. Some people don’t want answers. It doesn’t matter how much you break it down, how much research, how much you labor In love and grace... some people don’t care about the truth. So they stay in a lie because that’s what’s comfortable. Jesus, Jesus Christ is, was always, and will always be the answer. There is no other name. You want truth? His name is Jesus.

If the claim is that Jesus exists today, what’s the deal with looking at historical evidence? I sense desperation and a redundancy in the act of faith if we really think evidence can prove Jesus’ existence today.

26 Documents written by 12 men within 90 years of the Lord Jesus' death, speak of His death by execution. 10 of these 12 are Christian, 2 are non-Christian: Josephus and Tacitus. Some of the Christians are in the New Testament, others include Polycarp, Ignatius and Clement of Rome, who wrote after 90AD. All of these documents have been verified to have been written in the first or early second century by reliable sources that quoted or referred to them.

Is the New Testament reliable? Of course not. The bible is a book of unverified authors with unverified written dates which has people claiming other people claimed that a person named Jesus claimed to be the son of god and to have powers. That is a mountain of incredible claims with vastly insufficient testable evidence to support it
