Logic, reason and critical thinking. Whatever happened to those things? She has no real argument people. she has no reason that Christianity isn't true. Logically if Mathew Mark, Luke and John is your reason (no explanation given why it's her reason) for not believing the bible, then logically Larry, Mike and Ben are the reasons I don't believe in going to school. It makes no sense whatsoever.

The sad part is when people say they lost their religion. They never had it in the first place. However, only God knows for certain. Pray for these people....

You can lose your religion, but you can't lose your salvation and relationship with God. True born again Christians have salvation and a relationship with God...they don't have a religion and they never did in the first place. So, if you have lost your religion then how about you replace that with true salvation and a relationship with God. Believe (trust) the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and get a confirmed salvation and relationship with God that can't be lost like a religion can be. Ephesians 1:13-14 (KJV): In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

This looks like it's also a failure in our basic education system. Kids these days have absolutely zero concept of the vast history that has gone before them; they seem to believe that history started with them. They don't have any concept of the facts that the names Matthew (Matityahu), Mark (Markos), Luke (Loukas) and John (Yohanan) are not English names but names with thousands of years of history behind them, and that the fact that they are popular names today is a tribute to the Bible's lasting power, rather than an argument against it.
@holla_j Says:
The New Testament was written in Greek. So those names would not be in Hebrew.
@JesusChristIsLordoflords Says:
The Bible is beyond clear about those who walk away. 1 John 2:19 NKJV [19] They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. They were never saved to begin with.

Im 45yrs old..and one thing ive noticied in young folks today..is they Don't do the research or in depth studies to Find the truth. To see if this (religion) carries Truth...instead if they see it on tick tok or the internet they easily automatically believe it...I pray for today's generation.
@nateez3898 Says:
And I bet the same people don’t know how to put gas in the car, live with parents or someone else paying the bills, or know anything about basic history like when America was born. Forget about the history of the greeks and Roman’s. Debating adult children is the worse.

@AndrewMycol Says:
If someone "loses their faith" because "Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John" names don't fit the "Middle East" standard, that's not much of a faith. That's saying you have a faith, but wanting to live the way you want to. It really saddens me also how many people supported this "argument" in the first place, which shows churches, and/or Christians myself, need to be doing a better job of answering questions that some people may have.
@lonerface8257 Says:
I am struggle financially right now. But I can't deny the Christianity. Jesus s the source of my purpose and strength. I am poor now but I can't deny the King who give me encouragement and protection everyday. There r so many poor Filipinos here n my country worship Jesus.

This just shows our need for apologetics! Preaching is amazing but we need to also not only preach to the soul but to the mind that might be filled with doubts from time to time.

Im a muslim and seeing what is being done to christianity in the west is saddening. the church of england essentially lets anything happen, and people widely hate on christianity for no reason and call it a hateful religon. its sad for me because it basically is the same religon as islam just that we muslims believe that the bible was made for the people at the time of isa, and alot had been changed wildly since then.
@areyoutheregoditsmedave Says:
im stunned people are this dumb.
@WriterofWorlds Says:
Doesn't the Bible speak of a "falling away" in the last days? It's happening right now.
@jct5 Says:
Why am I not shocked with education being the way that it is now that someone would question why Matthew,Mark,Luke,and John have English names...in an ENGLISH written Bible lol..
@RoyceVanBlaricome Says:
Not bad but it does beg a couple of questions. First, are you sure our Bible today is translating their names from the Hebrew? As I'm sure you know the NT was translated primarily from the Greek. Like some of the Comments this is something I've never really given any thought to. Which brings me to the second point. I'd have just replied...NEWFLASH!! His name is NOT "Jesus" either! LOL
@TheLawRival Says:
During those times a lot of people spoke Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. Because John wrote the book of John in Greek, Johns name is, Ἰωὰννης, that’s Iōanees, which translates into John, and in Hebrew it’s translates to, Johannes. Let’s translate that Tik-tok girls name into English: Duh.
@mayharmon6948 Says:
Sorry, but this objection does not only show ignorance but bad thinking skills and a desire to justify atheism. Whatever you were told, you could realize that translations exist, and that translations of names exist, and that doing a basic search on this question would probably answer whatever you needed. But she doesn't like church and the requirements of being a Christian, so....
@handleitwithlove Says:
Have you not open your eyes ? Are you Christian still blind about this ?
@GKvartic Says:
Please, please, acquire some awareness about the classical languages - Latin and Ancient Greek - as well as antiquity in general, and how they relate to Christianity. The tradition is rich and waiting to be discovered, with many other life-altering jewels in there besides the minor point of the original names of the evangelists (not the disciples!). This is absolutely vapid.
@christatum3045 Says:
People don't even realize that the reason those names are associated with Europeans is because THEY got it from the Bible. Next thing you know she's gonna be saying that Nintendo named one of their franchises after Robin Williams' daughter😒
@b.alexanderjohnstone9774 Says:
Next she'll discover they don't even have a website or up to date profile pics on LinkedIn.
@presleynotalt5530 Says:
As an atheist I can confirm, that's a fairly dumb explanation. That doesn't mean she can't be atheist though.
@black_horse_lover2655 Says:
So cool seeing John here!
@OriginalNeoSupreme Says:
Those are what you call reprobate minds. The level of willful pride and ignorance is disgusting to me, though I have to remember that I was the same or worse. We can only ask Elohim to grant them discernment, if He wills it.

@szilardfineascovasa6144 Says:
LOL...fitting for the "intellectual" side of Tik Tok.
@ishkanark6725 Says:
So you expect us to learn every religion just to unbelieve it better?
@ocubex Says:
Whatever happened to critical thinking? We need to do more with explaining the foundations of faith to the next generation.
@tinyfreckle Says:
I disagree, it is 100% a problem with their thinking. They all have access to the interent as proven by their commenting on a tiktok video. Therefore they ALL have google and could get the simple answer to their question - the names sound English because you are reading the English translation - in a matter of SECONDS. Yet they are too blinded by the agenda behind their question to want to find the answer and possibly be proven wrong. They don't want answers, they want to be correct.
@Ashitaka1110 Says:
Oh my word. Gen Y and Gen Z need prayers even more than I realized if that many people actually thought that was a good argument. Wow.

Jesus spoke about a 'great falling away' before the tribulation. It's either just begun or we're in the middle of it rn.
@unc1589 Says:
Well said! It’s amazing how we hold the Bible accountable for not presenting “evidence” while never questioning the theories that we believe. Evolution doesn’t get a 10th of the scrutiny that the Bible does! Whatever you believe should stand up to the “why” test. If the Bible is not true then what do you replace it with? Show me the evidence to what you believe! Give it the “why” test and chase it down the rabbit hole. See how far you get before you reach the “faith zone“. We’re not looking for evidence, we just wanna be right. If we’re wrong the last thing we want is evidence. We’re cowards when it comes to truth.

Mathew was Matityahu john was yohanan luke was Lūqās BTW Jesus real name is Yeshewa as well as God's name being Yahweh. The book is true its just translated too different languages.
@kevinc3236 Says:
Don't think it has anything to do with her question regarding Mathew Mark Luke and John. More just looking for a way not to be accountable b4 God. The names are translations to make it easier for pronunciation in English, that's it. 👌 Not rocket science.
@aaronshipp8766 Says:
Ngl that’s ignorant 😂 of course the disciples in 1st century didn’t speak English. Yochanan & Matthiyahu a couple of the Hebrew names 🤦🏿‍♂️.
