The blood sacrifices in the Old Testament seem barbaric to modern audiences. But why is blood so important to God? 😅😅😅 y'all ignore verses that God himself says he did not require sacrifice from Israel but True repentance, Jesus quotes this too. Hosea 6:6. The bigger point was not the blood... God wasn't unable to forgive without blood. This is a total misconception.... We see in Leviticus 5:11, when someone did not have an animal to slaughter as a sin offering, a grain offering would be just as good. So it was Not the blood alone at allllll. Anyone who runs with this just wants to affirm the blood of Jesus as a requirement for forgiveness, a concept which Christianity runs on. But not God. Clearly.

@TorahisLifeandLight Says:
MAIN REASON FOR ANIMAL SACRIFICES IN ISRAEL: Quite honestly, Jesus was never against the animal sacrifices , He observed the Passover, Jews sacrificed animals for this festival Of Passover and Day of atonement ( Yom Kippur) as a commandment. If Jesus was against the temple's sacrifices , he wouldn't gone to the temple to pray and teach or not have observed Passover and Day of Atonement ( Yom Kippur) , period. (Read Luke 22:1, 2-15 ) I don't understand why Christians think this is against God, this animal sacrifice has been practiced for thousands of years for purification reasons. As a Jew, I believe that the Most High God will judge the sinners regardless if they believe in Jesus and sin ( or break the laws of God) at the same time. If you break any capital sin like idolatry, adultery, any type of sexual immorality you will be considered wicked in the eyes of God and not worth entering the kingdom of God at all. Yes, there are sins we all commit which are called unintentional sins or unclean sins mentioned in the Old Testament that are not considered capitals sins that required "purification and retribution" That's why the priesthood sacrificed animals to purify our souls to approach God's Holiness. Priests did not sacrifice animals for forgiveness of murders, idolaters, or adulterers, or anybody who practice any capital sins. Christians have the wrong concept of the priesthood in Israel before or even in the future. Even Paul preached that if you sin against the laws of God such as a way like drunkenness, selfish ambitions, moral impurity, outburst of anger, hatreds, strife, jealousy, creating factions, sorcery, envy, etc. you absolutely won't be able to enter the kingdom of God regardless. Galatians 5:19-21, So, Paul did not make an exemption if you believe in the blood of Jesus , you are exempt from those sins , instead he mentioned in Galatians 5:19-21 as a big warning. In other words, you will be destroyed by God when judgment comes upon the wicked whoever breaks those laws of God in Galatians 5:19-21 the same as Exodus 20:1-10-17 If people breaks or broke the laws of God, repentance of the heart ( change his evil ways) is required in the eyes of God to become restored , forgiven and healed by the power of God and his Holiness embedded in his laws. ( Ezekiel 18:4, 7, through 27) God did not required a human sacrifice or animal sacrifice to forgive you for wickedness or capitals sins. Isaiah 1: 5 - 20

We don’t need to kill animals any more to get the crops to grow we just need a bit of fertiliser (nitrogen) why is blood important because some one a long time ago noticed that when they left a corpse on the ground the plant life grew better but didn’t understand that they had fertilised the ground .. I’m Druidic by the way so just leave the poor critters alone and get some miracle grow
@freakyfreshwater7680 Says:
The only problem with your "theory" is that Jesus didn't want us to offer animals for sacrifice. He turned tables at the Temple in protest for what those merchants were selling - look it up yourselves - all Temples of that day did the same thing. The merchants were selling animals for sacrifice and profiting for it. This is a point clearly skipped in this blood thirsty god theory. If killing things is Gods way - then that is not love - which is not God. Though shall not kill is a convenient commandment ignored by humans - but not from Jesus. Jesus came with a message of love not death. Amazing that Jesus could forgive sins by telling us to repent and sin no more. Please advise where in the bible Jesus forgave someone of their sins and then told them to go kill an animal.- There is an awakening coming and it will continue as we study Jesus's teachings and stop treating the entire bible as if it is God. Scholars love to throw pieces of the bible together to defend the indefensible and then call that love.

God pronounce judgment for sin before man sin! Man gives the blood type and not the mother. Sin fail to everyone because of it. God took animals skins and covered them, but the BLOOD was a cover, or a down payment for THE LAMB OF GOD, as the Bible says, the second Adam, who was born by the Spirit, an without sin,so He could redeem mankind from sin. He's the payment! That's why His blood removes sin and not Cover it!

@-Pierre Says:
If God sacrifices His Son as a sacrifice of atonement, it is so that human beings may obtain salvation for their souls and that justice may be done for sins. It is through the atoning sacrifice of His Son: Jesus Christ, that God grants us eternal salvation. God offers us a way so that we can be saved. The atoning sacrifice of His Son is retribution so that justice may be served, for God is a holy and just God, and the sins committed during your life, that is, all the evil things you have done during your life, must be justly punished according to the transgression. God has informed us and given us laws, and these laws that He has given us are the very embodiment of universal justice, and transgressions of these laws that have been given to us must be punished when these laws are broken. God is just, He cannot simply acquit the guilty without doing justice to the law, but the transgression of the law ; sin must be punished so that justice may be done. All humans have sinned during their lifetime. If you have lied once, you have broken the law and, therefore, you are a sinner and deserve justice. You understand, God is Holy and He will not tolerate sinners in His Kingdom, and because God is Holy, you too must be holy in order to attain eternal life, and therefore you must be cleansed, and that is what God did, He sacrificed His Son so that the world could be saved, He gave His Son so that through His atoning sacrifice, He would take our sins upon Himself so that justice would be done for the transgression of the law and our impurities, our mistakes, God frees us from punishment by sacrificing His Son for the world, and those who accept His Son in order to be saved are those who will be made white and who will be saved, It is those who have accepted his Son who will have life, while all those who refuse will receive just punishment for their sins, because they rebelled against God and did not trust in his Word or in his Son.

'What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?," says Yahweh. "I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed animals. 👉I don't delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats.' —Isaiah 1:11 👉"For I didn’t speak to your fathers or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices; but this thing I commanded them, saying, ‘Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. Walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’ But they didn’t listen..."—Jeremiah 7:22-24 "For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings." —Hosea 6:6 "I don't rebuke you for your sacrifices. Your burnt offerings are continually before me. I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens." —Psalm 50:8-9 And from the mouth of Jesus Himself: "But you go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." —Matthew 9:13 'Samuel said, "Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams."' —1 Samuel 15:22 "Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering." —Psalm 40:6 "A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." —Psalm 51:17 "How shall I come before Yahweh, and bow myself before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will Yahweh be pleased with thousands of rams? With tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" —Micah 6:6-8 👉"To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice." —Proverbs 21:3

Who was the debt being paid to? God? Jesus "paid" the price...right? So this sacrifice is a currency to remit the cost of sin. Sacrifice being the payment in place of death. Am I to believe that if there never was a Jesus that I would need to be slaughtering an animal every year in order to not die?

@ameliac504 Says:
They made sacrifices daily, no?
@yvonnehedeker3441 Says:
This is not entirely correct. Jesus was the Passover Lamb, not the goat of the sacrificial system. Substituonary Penal Atonement is a medieval construct based on the honor system that was in place in the early middle ages. God did not invent death. Death was a result of sin. The OT sacrificial system was about cleansing, the Tabernacle/Temple, and cleansing the uncleanness of people so they could approach God. God dealt with serous sin on the spot. Adultery, murder, and idolatry required the death penalty. Jesus, by His life, was the new Adam, and by His sacrifice, He overcame sin and defeated death. Death was of the devil. God says He freely forgives. What a great God!

O.k. folks... This is a very serious question and this answer was really terrible. I also noticed that Frank took a pass on it... we deserve a good answer. If you read all the books of the old testament they are constantly slaughtering, blood squirting, gutting, barbecuing, and enjoying the smell of roasted animals on an enormous scale. Why did the Jews stop doing it? The only answer I can find is because the temple was destroyed. Is the true answer that God destroyed the temple and hence destroyed animal sacrifice? In John he says "Destroy this temple and 3 days later I will raise it up"? Is that the answer??? I hope someday I will get a good answer to this question.
@johnirish989 Says:
No. The SOUL is in the blood. Life is in the spirit. Adam becomes alive when God breathes into his nostrils. If the sacrifice merely required death, God would've had His Son's throat cut and He would've died quickly and relatively painlessly. The soul is in the blood, the place of sensation, feelings of pain, and signifies a long suffering death.

@Peter-tg9zv Says:
I used to believe the idea of progressive revelation but now I wonder if there isn’t actually some explanation for how blood sacrifices “cleanse” us, sort of like a spiritual science, where it’s not simply symbolic or psychological, but methodological on a spiritual level.
@patrickbass3542 Says:
You guys don't know enough about sacrificial requirements to be discussing "blood sacrifice"! The "blood" of a sacrifice is first removed and eventually "sprinkled" on the altar and its' surroundings. Blood is never directly poured-out on the altar in volume. You guys should do your homework!
@TPTP8080 Says:
Luke 23:43 Jesus tells the thief on the cross that he will be with Christ in paradise that very day, which assumes that the man will not be reincarnated back into earthly life… there is no reason to believe reincarnation is not a afterlife possibility. I understand we “sacrifice” animals every day as a means to eat. Why do they only sacrifice goats, bulls, cattle, etc? Why didn’t they sacrifice lions, tigers, and bears? Riddle me that.

Everyone seems to be talking about how it’s because sins are only forgiven at the cost of a life; however, the verse I am convinced on is genesis 15:9-11. Seems as though there was no point to the sacrifice. God said Abram was righteous and that he would gift him with a son. When Abram didn’t believe God, all He told Abram was to bring him a bunch of animals and sacrifice. Nothing else. Why? It wasn’t for sin. It wasnt a thanks offering. So.. what was it, exactly ? Did Abram have to make those sacrifices in order to be gifted his son? If so; why? Why would multiple lives need to be taken for God to gift someone with a child? I don’t understand.

In Researches into the Phenomenology of the Self, C.G. Jung writes "According to Irenaeus, the Gnostics held that Sophia, ..., in the form of a dove, descended into the water and begot Saturn, who is identical with Yahweh." What Sophia created in error is the Demiurge. In the Secret Book of John, the Savior gives the best description of God the Father, as distinct from the Demiurge who masquerades as god in the Old Testament, and who constantly demands sacrifice; in particular, child sacrifice. In the text, On the Origin of the World, "at the consummation of the age, ..., Sophia will take off her wise flame of afterthought and put on irrational wrath", to drive out the Demiurge and his ruling cabals, ushering in heaven on earth. The same text ends with "Each one by his deeds and his gnosis will reveal his nature."
