These quick answers are good but there also needs to be a more in depth answer. Drugs have been used for centuries for people beliving they can aid speaking to the spiritual world. Shamans use mind altering subtance along with trance inducing music and chanting to contact the spirits. Peyote indians uses peyote, some use psilocybin mushrooms some use Auyhusca .the ancient greeks who worshipped dionysis used wine that had ergotomine which l.s.d comes from eegotomine. Yoga practioners would uses bhang..theres a book d.m.t the spirit molecule . As d.m.t is the main common connection in all trance inducing experiences ,as the human brain produces d.m.t in the pineal gland which is the the center of brain to the middle of the forehead = the 3rd eye. So even those who never do drugs but meditate in darkness long enough, the minds pineal gland will produce d.m.t and cause you to see the spirit realm. Its not just hallucinacions now many will argue you see God, but perhaps as the devil hath the ability to appear as a angel of light , perhaps what you are seeing is fallen angels ,as those who open there 3rd eye get a spirit guide, or a spirit animal or unite with there holy guardian angel or become a genius. Terminology is depending in tradtion, opening the chakras the 3rd eye chakra causes you to see and experience the spirit realm and drugs are used in many occult traditiins to aid you to get there. Take wine and strange drugs ..( partial quote from crowleys book of the law) it is the reason l.s.d waa introduced in 60s as part of a shaman like trance inducing opeing you up to the spirit realm. same for the rave movement. and many will argue thst psychedelics are the fruit you eat to make one wise. gnostic inversion paints yahweh as the demiurge and sophia or lucifer as the savior who gives you the firbidden fruit for gnosis to awaken your true potential.. so it is always a good idea not to strawman your opponent and know there belifs and then provide a biblical response ..if you do mystical practices and use drugs to see the spirit world you may indeed have more than mere hallucinations, but you may also come to have a angel of light indwell you, or rather one who appears as a angel of light who convinces you, that you are knowing God by gnosis ,and you will be convinced you are becoming closer to god but what is actually happening. Is you are having your mind seared into sin, calling Good -evil and evil you call good. I wish somone like frank turek would also provide a deeper dive into this subject and more thorough answers so you can better apologetically answer the yoga mystics , the shamans, the occult practioners , the ravers etc ,anyway I hope frank sees my txt and i thannk you frank for your short answer, but would hope you will do reaserch and present a more in depth answer also..ps ive met you frank 2x I dont agree with 100% of everything you say, but love you and the work you are doing , and its a good 80 or more% I agree with. But this one Yiur short answer is ok but sort of straw mans many who use drugs for mystical read d.m.t tge spirit molecule and terrence mcennnas books and history of shamans and history of acid tests of tge 60s and raves many occukt peoole involved in acid tests and rave movement and in some states they are pushing to leagalize psychedlics for religois reasons as well as mental heath..plus frank briefly brought up greek word pharmekia in bible the word im english is sorcery and franks wrong in jesus time people used drugs to talk to spirits, the rites of elusus in greek and roman worship used in bacchanel and anceint egyptian and babylonia and shamns and yiga mystics so sorcery is drugs to contact spirit world which the book of revelatiin says will be wide spread the closer we get to jesus return and the tribulation .something to look into as many drugs are now becoming legal. The bible does yell you not to have anything ti do with drugs to contact spirits. They are decieving spirits who appear as angels of light and all shams mystics ocvukt who encourage drugs for mystical the aim is to contact a spirit

Disclaimer- most important is to see that divine source creates all things for a purpose. More than a few have claimed psychedelic substance is one way for our God to telephone humanity, and who can really claim that this is absolutely not true when one sees how miraculous the effects of psychedelic experiences have the potential to be. I honest to my gods have a deep love and respect for them. They taught me so much and i had many fantastic experiences taking them. I will surely be against them and imagine i will do it once a year for the rest of my life from here. But one of the most important things i realized... this is not an elevator to spirituality. Not a lazy man's shortcut to God. In fact, it can seriously hinder your spiritual evolution if you allow the drug to drive your ego. It's a wonderful tool to shift perspective and see beyond the boundaries of your own box. An excellent medicine for healing from trauma, a lack of love, a disconnnection with yourself. It's basically a way to open a door.. but you will only ever be looking through the door if you rely on psychs to get you there. One must apply in sober life what lessons and realizations one may have gleaned from the experience of this temporary freedom from convention's chains...and must never ever either over estimate or underestimate said substance. All this beiing said, keep in mind we are all related to fungus and that fungi and mushrooms have evolved alongside us just like dogs. We are both deeply entwined and have been benefitting/growing from each others help for millenia and longer...

I’m not going to lie drugs was the cause I came to God. Jesus was letting satan break me down through drugs, alcohol, vaping, at 1 point I came to listening to Christian music while I was high cause I was trying to break from the pain, but it took 1 year after that when I got saved I said I was done with vaping, smoking, alcohol, pornography, depression, anxiety, all left when I said I was done I give all to Jesus mentally my mind I was set on Jesus not on other false Gods.

With the drinking thing I’m still on edge with. Cause in order to get drunk you have to drink so why even risk it to begin with? Also the Bible talks about staying sober minded and once you take that first drink of alcohol you’re on your way to not being sober minded. So I just decide to not drink at all
@stanleyipkiss3806 Says:
The guy who asked the question didn’t come prepared enough. Turek said that a high from a drug is fake thinking and completely impaired artificial thoughts. He doesn’t seem to realize that most of these reports of meeting god on a drug, is from DMT. Our brains already contain DMT, the brain releases small amounts of it every night while we sleep, and the brain releases a very large amount of it when we die. So smoking DMT doesn’t actually impair you with something artificial, it enhances and increases the power of what is already there, allowing you to experience a deeper state of your consciousness
@propps2253 Says:
It doesn't matter if it's Jesus, Mozes, Buddha or Muhammed they had all some kind of experience that they spoke afterwards that there is more to reality then we normally percieve. Even in the Catholic faith you had people like John of the cross en Teresa of Avila who spoke about these direct experiences and the process of purification. And so do all the mystics of different traditions they all speak about the same direct experience. The person in the video said that if you take psychedelics it couldn't be objectively true, that's the whole point because when you take a psychedelic you can have the experience that it feels more true then our "normal" state, so the same question we can apply to our "normal" experience is it objectively true what we percieve as reality and who we are.

I took mushrooms 17 years into my New Age lifestyle, when depression kicked in. The mushroom spirit or the active ingredient,psilocybin, is supposed to heal depression, expand your conscious etc. It was amazing. The results were great. Until I started channeling spirits during my trips, who then took over my life and tried to push me into suicide. Guess, who saved me at the last moments? Jesus Christ. No more depression, no spirits. Mushrooms are one of many Satan's ways to lure us into sth seemingly great but very temporary and, mostly, body and soul destroying. The only way to any inner peace and eternal life in love is Lord Jesus Christ. Don't get bought cheap.

"Chemical imbalance." Where is the blood test to prove that? I was told when I was 12 that I had a so-called chemical imbalance and the antidepresants drug I was put on ( Zoloft) has now been proven to cause problems. You know, I was and still am depressed at the age of 50 because I never had a mother's love, not my sisters due to them being killed when I was 8 weeks old. I never knew my them and was told by girls when I was growing up that I was "too nice" and never given a chance to have a normal teenage life. Even to this day, women give me excuses like, "I have a boyfriend (so I can be 'just friends' with you.") OF COARSE IM DEPRESSED when I am being forced to live my life as a LOANER and trusting the Jesus will ONE DAY change all that "in his timing." We are designed by God to love and BBE LOVED! Do that, and psychologists would be put out of business OVERNIGHT! We, especial in the "Christian" community need to re examine how we treat one another.
@coryc3032 Says:
the 60's was a high point for psychedlic use and we all know how that turned out
@stephenkeen6044 Says:
We need to come up with a better way to address psychedelics, it's part of the next "wave" of anti-Christian thought, where the psychological "benefits" are lauded, but the spiritual consequences ignored. You're consciously giving up control of your mind when you do them, opening doors that shouldn't be opened. It's a form of active submission, but to what and to whom? Being sober-minded, exercising self-control, submitting to God, not being conformed to the world but being transformed by the renewing of your mind is the proper path to be taking. Psychedelics are a shortcut where you give up more than you gain. "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." - Romans 12:1,2

I've had true spiritual experiences on psychedelics but only the Bible could show me the objective truth. Drugs have too many blurred lines on their own. I wouldn't recommend anyone take them outside of any medical applications.

Psychedelic’s definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again but it’s just so hard to source here

Under the influence of LSD my body dissolved into an ocean of light particles. I saw that I was formless energy that formed into a human body. The experience changed my life forever. I quit the Catholic Church and my drug experiments, became a Christian for 5 years, then a Zen Buddhist for 10 years and finally an atheist for 40 years. I found what I was looking for and never went back.

Certain drugs can give you a glimpse of god, if used properly but in my experience people misuse them far more than they use them for therapy. And continuous use will completely stop you from seeing him at all. Rather than try to sneak in for a glimpse behind the curtain, why not sit down with the rest of us and enjoy the full show? So to speak.
@paulmelonas7263 Says:
In the late 1960's and 70's I was a heavy user of psychedelics. I then came to Jesus. Not totally as a result of drug use, but it helped. LSD and Mescaline showed me the demonic entities that roam this world. That scared me to Jesus.

Finally, something I agree with Turek about. Yeah you can’t trust any sensory experience you have, especially something like that, when you’re on acid

I've never met anyone who does mushrooms that doesn't also do other drugs. It's just yet another method to find purpose and meaning and peace outside of the one true God. Satan disguises himself as an angel of light after all
@stephenkaake7016 Says:
Frank, I am God, I made psychedelics for people to meet me in the astral plane, God has a plan, a planet and plant
@dabbler1166 Says:
This one is easy. Drugs are NOT the way. Why not? UNRELIABILITY. If 20 people take drugs to "find God"....even if they take the same drug, they may still have wildly varying experiences that are different from each other and don't match. If they are all "contacting God", then why is God so different amongst them? If its the same God, why wouldn't they have the same experience? Especially if God is "one" (not many) as so many people claim. ?
@eufemialoughary9642 Says:
LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."
@ocoeno Says:
Yes, drugs can bring you closer to God. Chill out, I'll explain how. I struggle with drugs addiction for over a decade, alcohol, marihuana, cocaine, mushrooms, tried molly, extasis and finally mescaline... Mescaline was freaking crazy. Things were getting out of control and I did not know what to do, I was depressed and started having suicidal thoughts, so one night while being super high, I said to myself, well bro you better find the way to get out of this mess. So I started thinking about ways to overcome my addiction, all of the sudden this thought came to my mind "the only way out is Christ". It was the clearest thought I've ever had in my entire life. So in June of 2014, the Lord Jesus Christ broke into my life and saved me. And guess what? I've been clean for 9 straight years now with zero struggles. Don't want to have anything to do with drugs as I'm a new creation now. I will always thank the Lord for saving me. Now I'm a happy dude waiting for my Lord Jesus Christ to come to be with him forever praising his name forever ever ever.
@somethingtothinkabout167 Says:
If you have to keep using an addictive substance then it is perhaps not curing anything.
@Gek1177 Says:
Drugs can provide people with highly spiritual experiences. For some people they do bring them closer to God. Since the Bible isn't against the use of recreational drugs I figure people can do what they want and if drugs help them feel more connected to their God then cool. I just hope that they use drugs responsibly because I'm sure we can all agree that substance abuse is unhealthy.
@Ark-Angel44 Says:
Drugs are the fastest way to experience a demon.
@nschlaak Says:
From all of the books written about drug use by different cultures that people took to get in touch with the spirit realm, I don't need to take the drugs to find out for myself. Yes I have foolishly taken drugs, especially psychedelics so that I could experience the effects that our 5th grade teacher told us that we would see but that we should never do drugs. If we had been told about the harmful effects and consequences of doing street pharmaceuticals I would probably never have touched them. From the specialists in psychiatry up through ministers who specializes in drug counseling I have enough information that tells me that the abuse of all drugs opens the gateway to the spirit realm. The god you meet isn't the God of creation.
@somerandom3247 Says:
You just refuted every personal testimony any christian has ever given. How do you know it was god?
@colonialrebel9964 Says:
Does it bring you closer to God? No. Does it hinder the spirit by effecting our sober judgement? Yes. I don't see many spiritual positives to psychedelics, but I also cannot judge people who use them.
@Kulharg Says:
That thumbnail goes crazy. Whoever does that needs a pay raise
@danielpray9089 Says:
I find so many of the comments here totally ludicrous. Can't even guess how many people I interviewed who ended up addicted to alcohol or drugs and it resulted in ruining their lives. Not everyone who takes a drug will eventually become addicted, but many do. Sent hundreds of people to substance abuse treatment. Many did not want to go, but those who did attend and achieved sobriety found a drug free life was much better than living while controlled by these substances. The idea that drugs somehow brings them closer to God means they are not closer to the God of the Bible. Just an excuse to continue taking the mind altering substances. Just an excuse to justify their actions on a religious basis. Can't find where God advocates drug usage on a recreational basis or that He says we are better off for doing so. We come to Him based on examination of the available evidence and then make a rational decision based on the interpretation of evidence. One of my responsibilities was to interview those involved in fatal traffic crashes. Many were driving while taking mind altering substances and people died because of it. Those who write the laws have logically determined that substances which affect a person's perceptions understand the hazards inherent in such behavior. That is why there are restrictions in their use while driving. Even if prescription drugs result in significant impairment people are subject to criminal prosecution if someone dies or is seriously injured. And physicians who fail to inform their patients of such things can also be held liable. If any of these situations came to my attention, then I would suspend/revoke/or restrict the driver license of those involved. Mind altering substances affect perception and subsequently driving abilities. It also means an impaired ability to rationally and responsibly decide who God is and how best to follow Him. Those who think drugs bring them closer to God are deceiving themselves. Not the God of the Bible anyway. Just like so much of what I heard every day. Excuses to continue in the same behavior by justifying their actions.
@lurvig Says:
I felt very close to the lord in my youth. All doing drugs did was increase my humiliation. I was so ashamed and humbled by the experiences which can be a good thing if you choose to turn from it but most just continue down the rabbit hole.
@RangerRyke Says:
How do you know what you experience without drugs is God? That warm fuzzy feeling you get in worship or what have you are chemical reactions in your brain same as drugs but toned way down. Has Turek even glanced at the latest cognitive science? Read Donald Hoffman, Anil Seth, David Chalmers. Your perception of reality is Nowhere near objective. Whoever is reading this you are hallucinating right now. In fact we all are, it’s just that when we agree on our hallucinations we call that reality. Don’t remain ignorant of what science is discovering, no matter how unsettling it may be to our religious faiths.
@jamesw4250 Says:
But drugs give you the same experience most of the time as a religious experience. This has been observed and proven. Basically when you get rid of drugs and take up religion your trading one addiction for another.

Exactly! People REALLY have no clue what psychedelics are and what they do. Anyone who has done or tried them should know. Theres also science behind what they do. 🤦

Other ways to get a spiritual experience are meditation (Prayer), singing and music (Hymns), preferably in an auditorium (Church), all practiced together along with people who all believe the same. It’s a question of why WOULDN’T you feel like you’ve had a spiritual experience.
