Who is suggesting that Jesus is fictional? Even as an agnostic atheist the evidence shows that a preacher named Jesus most likly existed, nobody is doubting that. The things he done however are a completly other topic. Now, knowing that one can easily give examples about other characters with this level of influence, like Mohammed(islam) or Buddha.
@170221dn Says:
So if you list all fictional characters in order of influence, the one at the top must be real? So by that argument the one second of the top could easily be real as well eg Allah?

Fictional character?  Seriously? I'd suggest that many if not most skeptics think that Jesus was a real character. What they think is fictional are the various miraculous claims about Jesus. Some skeptics may think those claims are pure inventions. Others may think the claims result from legendary developments, hallucinations and so on. We have other examples from history of real people exerting enormous influence, and legends developing around them, legends which often involve supernatural claims. This has nothing to do with fictional characters but rather has everything to do with real characters. If Frank and JWW cannot understand this, then consider that Benny Hinn is a real character who has great influence. But many claims his followers make about him, are fictional as far as we skeptics are concerned. For example, the fact that he blows people over with his breath has nothing to do with God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit, but rather it's a reaction due to devoted followers thinking that Hinn is performing miracles on them. ^^ Do Frank and JWW conclude that Hinn must be a fictional character because the claims his followers make about him are wrong? As for the chain of custody? It's a chain with many very weak links. Paulogia has an excellent short video titled "Why we know the story of Jesus isn't a legend (Cold Case Christianity response)" which explores just how strong the chain is. It's not strong at all.

This is absolutely awful reasoning. By necessity, there will always be a "most impactful fictional character". By Wallace's logic, that character should be inferred to be non-fictional. Then the second-most impactful becomes the most impactful. Again, by Wallace's logic, that character should also be inferred to be non-fictional. So on and so forth, until Wallace believes EVERY character is non-fictional.

So a man comes to die a gruesome death on a cross and claims hes God and dies on a cross - and this death on the cross will be for mankind's sin for all time? Well who else claimed that? Id want to look into it if someone came to earth today and made such seemingly outrageous claims wouldn’t you?

Can you add Josephus to the chain of custody? In his work Antiquities of the Jews (written in the 90s), he mentions the wise man Jesus who was: 1) A rabbi who attracted both Jewish AND GENTILE followers 2) A "doer of wonderful works" 3) Killed by crucifixion on order of Pontius Pilate 4) Allegedly rose from the dead after three days 5) Appeared to his apostles after his ressurection 6) And, the apostles claimed that all of these were done according to the scriptures. Keep in mind, this was written in the 90s A.D, very early stuff

Yeshua/Jesus is the most admired and feared person in human history...by far. The Bible is the most well-known and attacked book in human history. God is the most worshipped and ignored "Origin" in human history. And Jerusalem is the most contested piece of real estate in human history. ♥️ and ✌️

The fact that many go to extremes to try and show that Jesus didn't exist itself proves his existence. Else, why so much attention on a 'fictional character"

in marks gospel....for those that say jesus never claimed to be son of god... when jesus said "no man knows the hour, not the SON, only the father" that is a claim to divinity, for if jesus was not reffering to himself who then is this SON of god he speaks of?

Amen.
@simplyseculardave Says:
People THINK that Jesus rose from the dead... but there is no reasonable evidence to support that claim, and a lot of evidence which appears to counter that claim. Very few people think that "He really didn't". Most people outside of Christian apologists believe that there are many other explanations outside of the "Either Or" fallacy that you propose. It is MOST likely that Jesus was an unremarkable Rabbi who was born in Nazareth, died in his early 30s, and had tales of his life embellished Long after he died. Some of those tales reflect common religious and traditional beliefs at that time. And if you believe that Chain of Custody supports the biblical Jesus,... then it must support all other religions which have a chain of custody, and Must more strongly support other religions with a more reliable chain of custody,... right?
@joshuakohlmann9731 Says:
His comparisons to Darth Vader are disingenuous. Whether fictional or not, Jesus is a god, either a real one or an imaginary one. He should be asking what other GODS have had such an influence, in which case he's on less safe ground. Particularly in the case of the Greek and Roman gods, and the Muslim god.

Had Jesus either not existed, only been a man or not risen from the dead, Christianity would’ve died out almost immediately. It’s real, born again Christians who are the generational witnesses and our changed hearts and lives are our greatest witness. Dead or fictional people can’t do that. We take no credit for ourselves and owe it all to Jesus Christ our Lord who saved us, changed us and has worked in and through our lives from the moment of salvation forward.
@TheBamaguy334 Says:
Jesus is not a fictional character and nor is he a fairy tale as I was raised up to believe,and as far as I know,Jesus didn't come to start any religion,he came to fulfill his destiny by dieing upon the cross for our sins so that we can have a way to have our sins forgiven to have a way to heaven,Jesus paid that debt upon the cross when he said " it is finished",no other person in history nor any fictional character or person did what he did for us.
