My gosh this is good. As far as the whole universe being a few thousand years old and created in 7 literal 24 hour days...this is an area where you have to figure out if that scripture is literal or metaphorical.
We know the word says to God a day is like a 1000 years and a 1000 years like a day. Meaning time, according to God, has no defined characteristics as he is outside of space time itself. Take that fact, and juxtapose it with the scientific fact of light speed, and spacial objects that are known to be 10's if not 100's of thousands of light years away...and we can, as Christians, now easily accept that the universe not only can be MUCH older than just a couple thousand years, but it must be. And that fact does not contradict the bible.
This also applies to flat earth nonsense. We must understand the context certain things in the bible are said in. These are a people that existed 2-3000 years ago...with virtually no technology or scientific advancements. If your ENTIRE existence on earth takes place within a 75 square mile area...and you NEVER see much of anything outside that...you are naturally lead to assume the world looks exactly as it would around you. Flat from side to side with what would appear to be a dome shaped sky above you.
We know that to not be true now, despite people still believing otherwise for some reason.

Science is the study of the natural and physical world we're in through observational and empirical data, things that we can see, hear, touch, smell and taste. In reality, NONE of us knows the fullness of the shape of the world, none of us know how old the Universe is, or the aspects of its formation because these aren't observable and demonstrable repeatedly inside of a lab room. So in reality, we're just picking which TESTIMONY we believe in. I'll choose the testimony of Jesus because He's a better Man than everyone else.

I am a science teacher in senior high. Science and Bible don't contradict each other. It actually complements each other. Science books and Bible should be read differently because The Holy Bible talks about you as a person and God, while Science talks about the knowledge that we have through what we observe and what we discover. And just like believers use their belief in God and His Son to color our worldview in just about every thing we do in this life, those predisposed against Him will have an inherent bias against God because of THEIR worldview. I've found that regarding the creation story in Genesis 1, while it's simplified (because why on Earth would people who lived over 4,000 years ago understand the intricacies of atomic particles, much less how the Universe came to be) it doesn't really contradict how scientists suppose the Universe came into being and certain elements actually match up with some developments on Earth, such as the order of animals that developed, being fish (creatures of the sea), avians (winged creatures, birds etc.) and finally the land creatures (much more vague, but I suppose it means mammals). Certainly it's not terribly detailed or helpful in understanding the fine details, but that's why we've got science.

If you're science class explicitly states that science is in conflict with the biblical Narratives/Claims....
Then there's 3 possible reasons why this may be.
1) it's not actually a science class. [Ie:-- it doesn't really understand what science is saying, or can say, on the subject of the Bible]
2) it's not accurately presenting actual Bible positions. [Ie:-- it doesn't really get what the Bible says and/or describes. ]
3) so combination of the above. Lacking in understanding of both what the Bible is saying, and what objective science says about the Bible's claims.
People who are Objective Scientists, are unabashedly biased in their claims about science conflicting with the biblical narrative.
Because it's not objectively true.
