Sorry, but when I was a teen and a Christian friend invited me to some thing at her church, I remember the pop culture references to back up scripture is exactly what I found really off putting, cringey, and condescending. I never did go there again.

Could this also mean ‘guard’ as in the same way a gated enclosure in a zoo ‘guards’ man eating lions from getting out. Or even when sports team are playing against each other and one team is guarding another, in efforts to prevent them from scoring. If man is naturally evil we have to, in an essence, suppress or deny ‘guard’ our hearts and hold in our innate sinful nature in order to be Christ like. I don’t know? Just food for thought.
