There are things that God set in place as proof of the validity of the word of God…. That is what we need to do research to find… but then there are other things that are outside of the realm of physics and science that are purely spiritual that we should not lean upon our own understanding because we are not spiritual initially. The pastor didn't realize what exactly he was talking about, because he is comparing two different scenarios, the first scenario is that you shouldn't lean on your own understanding, this means to not depend on understanding that you already have but to open up and understand more, the second scenario put forth is, that the heart is deceitful and also wicked, now this means, deceitful, in that it wants things knowing it isn't good at all, which the pastor clearly explained, and also in that it is wicked, which means the heart cares not but for itself

Seems like "the heart" has to do with ones desire, whereas "understanding" has to do with comprehension and belief. So I don't think we can explain the verse that says "lean not on your own understanding" as meaning "lean not on your heart"

I bet you're one of those that also thinks that the Bible says being gay is a sin? Even though homosexuality was not even a thing when the Bible was written, and it was accidentally put in in 1947 to please people that thought they was a sin. Like many alleged contradictions, this is easily explained with context, content of the chapter, basic knowledge of the Bible, logic and common sense. It isn’t the alleged contradictions that are the problem, it’s the people who eagerly use them in ignorance to justify their unbelief.
