God gives us those commands because of the deception that can and usually will occur. But you can read 1 Samuel 28 about the one recorded occurrence of talking to a "ghost". Some will say that this spirit that appears is not of the dead Samuel. But later in this Bible story, he is referred to as Samuel. So either the scripture is confirming this spirit as Samuel, or this translation is in error. Some will say that prior to Jesus' resurrection that those who had passed were contained in a purgatory of sorts; so were available. But after the resurrection, those who were believers in Christ then went on to be with God in Heaven, which would meant that at this time the only spirits left to be contacted would be demons or ghosts of unbelievers. But either way, God has given us a command regardless of whether or not ghosts of deceased people can be contacted.

what about throughout scripture with angels and even God appearing before people to give them messages etc.? Daniel, Moses, Mary, Joseph (in a dream), Zachariah, Paul etc. etc. etc.....They appeared to them and they were from God. So to say that if a spirit appears to you that its not from God doesn't seem to align completely with scripture. But there should be discernment of the spirits.

Once in 86 I felt the presence of an evil spirit. I was not living for the Lord and was very worldy. Im setting in my chair in the afternoon and I felt a very cold something move thru me from left to right. I never felt it again but I've known since it happened that it was an evil entity. That's my experience with spirits. Never seen any and thank my precious Lord I'm sure I never will. God bless all who see this.

However I don't want to dismiss awareness of that change between the old and new covenant for what it represents to the theology of atonement and sinlessness in God's presence, if it is an accurate assessment.

Demonic spirits do indeed exist! In 86 I felt the presence of an evil spirit. It was summer time and I was setting in my living room. Suddenly the area around my chair turned ice cold. That cold walked right thru me. I wasn't living for the Lord at that time. I knew what it was right after it happened. I've never tried to talk to spirits but was living a very non christian life. So yes there are spirits and they're all evil!!

She also mentioned how people can have a demonic spirit within them but it’s hidden. She named certain things like depression, anxiety, fear, aggression, etc as such spirits. A few years before I got saved when I was a teenager one of my friends got a Ouija board for Christmas . Me and a group of my friends started playing with it in my friends walk in closet . I learned then that demons were absolutely real and could communicate with us because one did and I know for a fact no one was manipulating the board !!!! I won’t go into detail about what it said but all of us quit playing it and ram out !!! Now that I am saved I look back and think if a few kids could do this think what goes on all around the world with demonic influence mixed with unsaved people and the world made a lot more since to me . I inherited my Mom's house when she died and she died in the house. Since she passed away I have talked to her on a daily basis. I really don't expect her to answer me and she so far never has and I certainly have never seen her or my Dad who died two years before she did. I think I talk to my Mom for two reasons. One is that it gives me comfort to talk to her and two I talk to her just in case there is some chance she is with me and listening. Is this a sin?

Ghosts don't exist but familiar spirits do and a familiar spirit is a demonic spirit which wants to fool the living into believing that the person who has past can continue as a ghost. It's also a way for them to act like that person who died so the family member like a wife will commune with the dead by using a medium someone who speaks to demonic spirits. We also have a resurrection event at the cross. The paradise the thief on the cross is the good side of sheol. She uses her logic and not scripture.
