Thorium is not a viable fuel though thorium can be be used to create uranium in order to power a nuclear power plant. This tells me that we dont use thorium because we have enough uranium so we have cut out the middle man thereby saving money.

And yes, we've actually been in an interglacial period -- the Holocene -- of an ice age -- the Quaternary Period -- for about 2.5 million years. And we will go back into another glacial period in a few thousand years.
But if we don't change to sustainable energy now -- thorium is just a higher tech version of solar and wind any other sustainable energy -- in a few couple hundred years or sooner, the climate will reach a new "equilibrium" that will be as hard or harder us to survive as a civilization as a glacial period.
