The popularity of lifestyle hacks and health hacks are evidence of how lazy we really are. It's time to admit how lazy we actually are. We've been trying to hack our way out of any real effort in life, health, and success. The 'father of biohacking,' Dave Asprey is a champion for health hacks and admittedly just as lazy as everyone else. Most people will admit to wanting a great physique and outstanding physical, mental, and emotional health, yet people spend all of their time avoiding the things that get the results they say they want. Dave is joining Tom on this episode to reveal the idea behind his latest book, Smarter Not Harder: The Biohacker's Guide to Getting the Body and Mind You Want. Aside from the fact that we're all naturally conditioned to be lazy, as Dave explains, we're also bombarded with misinformation that makes getting the body and mind you want near impossible. Losing weight is at the top of the list for a lot of people, but so is boosting energy and keeping the mind sharp and focused. This episode with Dave is going to reveal a few key ideas for you: Why you don't need a caloric deficit to lose weight 3 reasons why calories in calories out doesn't work (and should be banned) How you can actually hack spirituality Dave Asprey is the founder of the Bulletproof diet and Upgrade Labs. He's already reversed his biological age by 11 years thanks to biohacking and following tons of research. He's gone from a 46 inch waste to losing over 100 pounds and maintaining a healthy weight. Dave has created a movement around the power of intention and human spirit in pursuit of high performance. QUOTES: 'There's absolutely a system that does things before our brain can do it.' 'The fact that you can gain weight from the same number of calories depending on when they're eaten destroys calories in calories out. It's an over simplified lazy way of thinking about weight loss…' 'Very few people do well over long periods of time on a carnivore diet or on a vegan diet.' 'The thesis behind 'Smarter Not Harder' is that our systems are elegantly lazy and that we are lazy as a result and that there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, laziness has driven all progress in humans.' 'The fact that you can eat junk food doesn't mean it's not harming you. The fact you don't get fat from it doesn't mean it's not harming you.' 'The vast majority of the people listening to this show want to want to exercise but they don't actually want to exercise.' So if I'm post menopause and producing less oestrogen shouldn't I lose weight instead of packing it on which is what actually happens to most women?

I agree… When totally healed from trauma- you’re not affected by outside external factors or validations etc… Self love 💕 Self care Self acceptance Unconditionally loving 🥰 oneself is being more whole- healthy- psychologically , emotionally & perhaps 🤔 energetically/ vibration wise/ resonance… 🧘‍♀️ 💕 You’re not emotionally dependent on outside love or validation etc It becomes a natural healthy want- instead of a clingy need to feel enough or ok 👍

I tried to listen and keep up but geez it was a bit too deep in the weeds. Is there another video this guy is on where someone can get the dos/don'ts on what to eat and what to do without the two hours of science discussion?

We are so disconnected with our circadian rhythms / wake sleep cycle / eating, no wonder so many are in a mess. Media on tap 24/7, artificial light, doesn't help either. Dr Sean O'Mara protocol of sprinting is legendary. Thank you for uploading and sharing.

I'd be good for someone to dissect this video and debunk or confirm any of the points they make with data. And of course skip over points where we just don't have enough data.
@ZeroMemorry Says:
Tom, please invite Layne Norton to your podcast. He talks about the real truth regarding nutrition as far as actual research that exists. He debunks several of your guests scientifically including Dave Asprey
@sanjay4elite Says:
Dave Asprey resembles Bret Hart Hitman! Are they related? 🤔
@gabbbbbz Says:
All that Dave talks about is madly intriguing and seems extremely intelligent, however, I don't know, in the few past podcasts, rather than reversing, he seems to have accelerated aging. Although not sure what to attribute it to, interrmittent fasting? Nah, probably not... Can't pin point what exactly, however it's likely he tests a lot of other biohacking stuff outside of what he mentions in the podcast that might be affecting him negatively
@JayhawkinCO Says:
He looks 69 instead of his actual age 49😮
@natethetoe386 Says:
1) Yes, you can put calories into your body, and not gain weight, because they can pass. This does not explain how someone can not take in calories and gain weight. Calories do not just magically appear inside your belly. They are a physical thing that is doing physical work inside you. That work can not be done with out the calories. He failed to explain this in any way. 2) The story of Pheidippides dyeing after running a marathon is a fabrication. In truth, the runners would deliver messages over 200 miles without dyeing. You are more likely to die from going to a sports game and choke on a hotdog, then die running a marathon. I'm sorry, but his comments on marathon running are just all wrong. 3) Every time Tom questioned him about how he knows something, he responded with a variation of, "there are so many things we don't know." Sorry just another book salesman telling people that you don't need to put in the work to be fit, healthy, and happy, and you can just be lazy. All in all, not a bad conversation and podcast.
@pininolfg Says:
I mean hes not wrong but technically Fasting does at the same time change ur calories in and Calories out as a bi product , its just a weekly deficit instead of a daily
@christianjenkins3688 Says:
Jesus Christ this guys has aged massively since his last visit a few years ago. Tom looks the same. Carnivore slows aging and Tom knows this.
@guysome3263 Says:
He looked five years younger three months ago. What is going on?
@volchonik6208 Says:
Going to share something somewhat controversial: Ive had on/off amorexia nervosa since my early 20s. Always been slim, atheletic, or skinny. Natural ecto-meso body type. The MOST weight i ever lost and the fastest was once after a particularly brutal break up. I was in such shock I did not eat for 24 hours. When I resumed eating I had no appetite. This knocked me back into my eating disorder for 2 months. I lost 10kg. (I went from 55kg to 45kg). I ate 1 bread roll for breakfast. Chicken sandwich for lunch. Dinner sometimes happened or did not but it was never more than 400kcal. I also walked eveywhere. It has taken me a year to regain the weight I lost. I cannot fathom a world where calories in calories out doesnt work. It works for me. (But to go from a low weight to a drastically low weight requires a mammoth deficit). Also movement, NOT exercise. Excercise seems like a helpful maintenance tool, but weight loss is something that almost requires total detachment from outcome. At this point, the whole concept of diet and weight is mystical to me. At 54kg now, to healthily go to 45kg seems like some kind of Arthurian quest. Before gravity was "discovered", did the world feel this fucking clueless about it?
@geminigirl7857 Says:
Friggin love Dave Asprey and his quantum brain
@jheyfede Says:
Thank you for always spending time to question and to work through things rather than forcing your way through an agenda. Valuable conversations.

@hivyfalou1393 Says:
hey tom, there is also misstfitandnerdy she is a youtuer ut her content is amazing and she really understands the body she talk about reverse diet and how to fix metabolism , really knowledgeable about the subject
@sandasuciu4384 Says:
I disagree with him on the carnivore diet.
@bitfinesse Says:
This guy must have stuff to sell. Mired in details with little actionable guidance. I recognize this ploy. Here we go. There’s nothing wrong with your brain. It’s finely-tuned and doing EXACTLY what it’s supposed to do: Pleasure-Seeking, Pain Avoidance, Conservation of Energy. When the brain detects hyper-calorically-dense items, it’s SUPPOSED to over-eat, more so if these items rarely enter the body. The human race survived doing this through scarcity. There’s nothing wrong with your brain, guy. There’s something wrong with your environment. It’s not natural to have access to 4,000 calories within ten minutes. Oil has around 4,000 calories per pound. Bell peppers have 120 calories per pound. We’ve built the world so as your brain does what it’s designed to do, it no longer helps you as it did our ancestors. It now kills you. Fix your environment. I wouldn’t listen to this guy. Doug Lyle and Alan Goldhamer get it right. Your channel, man. I’m shocked you let Goldhamer on. Gotta take you out of this algo. It’ll be worth it 😇
@bitfinesse Says:
The next video recommended is titled, “Kale is Deadly.” I’m gonna watch two of your videos to see if I should ex you from my algo. You had Goldhamer on so you can’t be COMPLETELY full-of-shit. But you know, so could be wrong.
@bitfinesse Says:
If you want to lose weight, the most important thing you can do is DROP YOUR CALORIES. Intermittent-fasting is a tactic to achieve this strategy. Geez man, your titles are out of line.
@rmh691 Says:
Why does this guy look so old and unhealthy ? I think I’ll skip his advice
@acemini9612 Says:
The only way I lose weight is a calorie deficit.
@kenmerrill4061 Says:
Tom, are you insecure? Are you recording shows to showcase for yourself or are you truly trying to further science, informative teaching, and helping others. This podcast makes me think you have lost your way.
