I had a pastor try to talk me out of bible college - even knowing I had heard God tell me to do it!
I left that church shortly afterwards - its hard to study with someone working against what you are learning!

Anyone smart is going to tell you to read your Bible analyze it and realize what a joke it is I did I was born a Christian and I am no longer one. If you do what I did, and read the book front cover, I guarantee you afterwards almost always the person who does this is going to become an atheist a Jew or a Muslim

My Mormon stake president once told me to stop studying the gospel so much and go home and iron my husband’s shirts. I didn’t touch my scriptures for a year. What he should have said at the very least was go home and keep studying God’s word! We now go to a wonderful little Bible church with in depth study groups,classes, and sermons. Thank you Lord!!!

This is similar to how the Christian Cults operate, mainly the likes of SDA, JW, Mormons, but also very odd branches like Hebrew Roots etc.
As someone who was an Seventh Day Adventist for three years, the level of indoctrination is frightening; they only delve into The Bible in groups, or on Zoom meetings, or during Hope TV broadcasts, and all that is discussed is usually doctrine reaffirmation. Any critical thinking and objective scrutiny of scripture is met with the ‘oh dear’ face, and a quick return to the narrative.
I’m grateful that I had that experience though, as I did learn a lot about historical events in the Old Testament, and developed some level of Bible study discipline.
It’s just that when you start asking questions, you’re seen as either ‘lost’ or a trouble maker. 🤷♂️

Another way to shut down your capacity to critically think and manipulate you to believe things that are demonstrably untrue is simply to not be able to read the original Hebrew. If believers COULD read the original Hebrew, they would be able to see, in high relief, all the places the Church tampered with, corrupted and mistranslated the Hebrew verses to deceptively create a Christological impression.

Growing up, our church pastor always encouraged us to go home and read the Word for ourselves to either confirm or challenge what he taught us. A good pastor or Christian teacher will never tell you to NOT study the Word.
