St. Augustine's Answer to Bible Contradictions

St. Augustine's Answer to Bible Contradictions

????

Is it possible to reconcile apparent contradictions in the Bible? When St. Augustine found himself perplexed by something in Scripture, he concluded that there could only be three reasonable explanations for any Bible difficulty. Watch as Frank shares those three insightful reasons. ???? ???????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? Rather than "buy a book" you could pray to receive the Holy Spirit. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit you have the Author and finisher of your faith dwelling inside you. He will make all things clear!!

If you don’t like the version of the Bible you are reading then just pick a different one. There are multiple versions and if that doesn’t work then just interpret the word of God however you want. It can be changed to suit your needs.

The Bible does not have contradictions, but most part of Christianity have. Mathew 24:36: “But about that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." What many religious leaders say: "He didnt knew but he also knew" ?????????????

It is absolutely allowable and permissible to say the author of the book is mistaken. How silly.

The lie of Christ is illustrated by the actions of Christians themselves and has harmed America and the world. Supporting those that deny the science of Climate Change, book bannings, demonizing the LBGT community, Embracing evil men like Trump or DeSantis, supporting those that fight against common sense gun laws, fighting to destroy democracy is where belief in Christ has led American Christians. And to showcase how the lie of Christ has infected Christians with evil you just have to look at the following proof: Right now 13 states are fighting to force women and children to give birth without exceptions for rape or incest. Again try and understand this evil...Christians feel entitled to force a raped 10 year old little girl to give birth!! It doesn't matter what their family wants, bodily automony doesn't matter...the only thing that matters to the Christian is their tyranny and sanctimony. NO amount of gaslighting, excuses or denial can change this reality of where the lie of Christ leads. It is time we as civilized people move past this evil cult and take back America, the land of the free. Thank goodness more and more people leave this cult daily...and it is the actions of Christians themselves that are the reason.

Kent Hovind's endorsement and explanation of the King James was fascinating to watch. When I come across something I don't understand I pray: "Heavenly Father please grant me understanding in this matter, in the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen." I've learned that God is good, and we think God has made a mistake, the oversight or mistake is ours. Darwin wrong, Bible true, Jesus saves.

If someone says to me "Nothing is better than mash potatoes" two derivatives can arise from the statement, either you'd rather have a plate empty than to have mash potatoes, or you'd rather have mash potatoes over all other options. You're ability to understand somebody is only possible when you can correctly interpret the meaning of their sentences, and the intentions they were aiming for. Darkness in Hebrew is often used as a metaphor for ignorance. To add, when the concept of the word, the idea behind it, does not match the author's intention, you have a misconception. Just like a digit off in mathematics do not expect the correct result when the equals sign is flawed in its assessment. As a child, I would have dreams in be in many nightmares where underground tentacle monsters could sense my slightest movement and impel me, wars, dreams of persecution, the grim reaper, things would get wild. I remember calling on the old testament name of God Jehovah, and I remember things did not end well for me when I was being assaulted by a witch. However, ever sense I was a child the name of Jesus has never failed me, when I began to call on his name Even recently, a spider demon with a human face around the size a 42" TV was crawling on my wall when I awoke from my sleep. I spoke the name of Jesus quite a few times and I attained Mercy unto myself, for that because Jesus has the authority for this reason. John 3:35 " He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." 1 John 2:23 "Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also." I believe that God cares for his creation and dosen't want to lose them, because I believed in Jesus and had the humility to honor his name many times throughout my life. I attained mercy through the New Covenant, agreement, or Testament. I believe Love is many things, and is doing many things read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (KJV) and study the langauge of the time and do for yourself an order of operations properly like you would use in Algebra. A few things I believe Love does it when you matter greatly it is a kindness(: an act to preserve and help you), that never lies to you. I will always believe in Jesus and burn anything against his word in my heart. I should add when I saw Mr. Spider Demon (Who had the face of a man with spider legs) I was in great fear and panic, but when I called on Jesus and continued calling out his name and like in any good relationship with enduring faith and belief I attained peace and serenity by his mercy. John 1:1-5 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

No Frank, Augustine of Hippo converted to Christianity in 386 after exploring Manichaean faith, and Neoplatonism. He totally believed the Adam and Eve myth, and helped developed the concept of Original Sin, the Trinity, Salvation (protection from harm), and Predestination. Augustine was a brilliant thinker and writer who found ways to overcome the theological contradictions he discovered in his Bible by building arguments that relied on faith instead of science and critical thinking. The contradictions remained after he finished publishing his famous arguments which circumvented the contradictions in defense of church dogma.

One contradiction is the big bang theory and lies of millions of years. But you nor Dr. Norman Giesler have given it much thought. It's a window of opportunity for you to speak to kids who've all been taught the lie so I see why you don't let it go. God forbid you've been wrong all these years and the videos and speeches be taken as all a huge lie. But I say do your research and see God made the universe and everything in it in 6 literal days. Read the verse and using proper grammar for the Hebrew language you see there is no room for the millions of year lies. You can also visit answers in Genesis and YouTube their video on the lies of millions of years and see how it doesn't work. God bless.

@michelangelope830 Says:
Atheists wouldn't be able to prove their own existence to themselves if the logical conclusion is that God exists and lose their children believing without questions asked that gambling causes a brain disease, and when they are told they don't care. Humanity censor knowledge that saves lives, and when they are told they don't care. If you don't understand why God is necessary is because the cult wants you ignorant believing in the impossible to hurt you. Would you understand a logical fallacy to save lives and don't lie to innocent and vulnerable children? Would you understand a deception to stop being deceived? Atheism is a logical fallacy that assumes God is the religious idea of the creator of the creation to conclude wrongly that no creator exists because a particular idea of God doesn’t exist. The proof that atheism is a logical fallacy is that atheists ask to prove that the creator of the creation is God, when God is whatever created the creation by definition!. The universe is a reality of a finite nature, beginning and end, birth and death, transforming. It is impossible the existence of the creation without the creator because nothing can be created from nothing. Atheism is blind faith in the impossible, the belief that the universe was created from nothing or all reality is the universe. "God exists" means that a reality of an infinite nature that transcends the universe exists. Reality is incredibly and infinitely more amazing than the universe because an inteligence created life from eternal existence. God is the most important issue in anyone's life and atheism is the dangerous idea that reality doesn't matter because we don't matter because existence ends with death. Atheists lack emotional as well as intellectual intelligence because a theory on God based on logic and rational thinking can not do harm. God is Time and Space transforming and the debate is bloody stagnated because God is not a personification of oneself to worship, obey and fear confusing hatred with perfect love and perfection with sadism. If anyone can understand that an intelligence created the creation from self from eternal existence shouldn't atheists be cautious and not live lying shamelessly defending an idea with nonsensical remarks like "who created god?" just in case there are further eternal serious consequences for hurting God’s Creation? Life is not a joke that was created from nothing like atheists believe. To end the war in Ukraine the discovery that atheism is a logical fallacy has to be news.

@hansdemos6510 Says:
I would actually be rather surprised if there were major errors or contradictions in a work of literature that was edited and compiled in order to present a coherent whole. I'd think that would be the bare minimum standard. So if you are, say, Luke, and you are going to write a biography of Jesus, and you already have the gospel according to Mark that people in your church have been reading for a number of years, then you will make sure that at the very least you are not going to contradict anything it says in there, right? You may want to add some things, and you may want to give it your own twist so Jesus sounds more like he agrees with you on some topics that you think are important, but naturally you will make sure that there you avoid any glaring contradictions, right? And likewise for any church fathers who had to decide which books to include in the list of church approved books; they would not knowingly include any books that contained obvious contradictions, or books that contained theological views that they disagreed with, would they. Given this background, I find it all the more amazing that the disagreement between Paul and James and Peter about how gentiles can join the church is described at all in Acts and the epistles. This was obviously an issue that was important to both Paul and the writer of Luke/Acts, as well as for the church fathers, who were almost all gentiles themselves, but to me, looking at it from a less practical and more theoretical point of view it clearly illustrates how Christianity was shaped by humans like you and me and not by anything divine. And I didn't even need any discrepancies or contradictions to get to that conclusion either!
@davidmccarroll8274 Says:
The reason people think there are contradictions comes from reading a few verses out of context !!!

It took almost two years for me to reconcile the part whdre Scripture states: He who finds a wifd finds a good thing and will be blessed, with my own experience in marriage. The key came only within the last month, when I realized Jesus tells again and again, the blessing is in Heaven, for those who persevere. Looking for blessings in Earth for Heavenly deeds is incorrect and leads only to disappointment.

Augustine was a manichean. He then became a Catholic. I’m sorry Protestants but your doctrines of free will and original sin all come from “the city of god” he also said very unfavorable things about Jews in that document. And on top of it he had a son of which he abandoned. I wouldn’t listen to a word he said lol.

I like it when you read up on a supposed contradiction and then the author accidentally affirms that it is actually a contradiction. Thats always a nice find. On an entirely unrelated note.... Is the explanation for differing dates of the crucifixion in the big book of bible difficulties any different than it is in 'when critics ask', by the same authors?
@carlc4860 Says:
When Jesus appeared, he uncomplicated the complicated nature of the bible by teaching two commandments of god; to love god and love your neighbors( who are also your enemies) From those two action words he expanded his teachings until his untimely departure. From there, the word personal responsibility come into action. Where they to believe and submitted to him, the world we are living in would be different from the world we live in today. 😅

At the end of the day we will all know who was wrong and who was right, the question is what hill are you willing to die on? I don't know about you guys but as a Christian and I'm wrong about everything and all this wasn't true then cool I lived the best life I could with what I had and that was all. But if it were to be true and as a person who actively denied God, I come to realize I was actually wrong?.... yikes.. Choose what you want but one hill seems way better to die on "if" you are wrong.

I wrote the Bible Frank, listen to me Frank, I am the Holy Spirit
@jackalsgate1146 Says:
The quote that Frank is referring to (St. Augustine) was from a letter that St. Augustine wrote to Faustus, who wrote a letter to St. Augustine with regard to Paul. Faustus, was trying to show that the Apostle Paul abandoned belief in the incarnation, to which he earlier held. St. Augustine replies back showing that the apostle was consistent with himself in the utterances quoted. And here is what St. Augustine said (remember, context is everything, Frank). "As regards our writings, which are not a rule of faith or practice, but only a help to edification, we may suppose that they contain some things falling short of the truth in obscure and recondite matters, and that these mistakes may or may not be corrected in subsequent treatises. For we are of those of whom the apostle says: "And if you be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you." Philippians 3:15 Such writings are read with the right of judgment, and without any obligation to believe. In order to leave room for such profitable discussions of difficult questions, there is a distinct boundary line separating all productions subsequent to apostolic times from the authoritative canonical books of the Old and New Testaments. The authority of these books has come down to us from the apostles through the successions of bishops and the extension of the Church, and, from a position of lofty supremacy, claims the submission of every faithful and pious mind. If we are perplexed by an apparent contradiction in Scripture, it is not allowable to say, The author of this book is mistaken; but either the manuscript is faulty, or the translation is wrong, or you have not understood. In the innumerable books that have been written latterly we may sometimes find the same truth as in Scripture, but there is not the same authority. Scripture has a sacredness peculiar to itself. In other books the reader may form his own opinion, and perhaps, from not understanding the writer, may differ from him, and may pronounce in favor of what pleases him, or against what he dislikes. In such cases, a man is at liberty to withhold his belief, unless there is some clear demonstration or some canonical authority to show that the doctrine or statement either must or may be true. But in consequence of the distinctive peculiarity of the sacred writings, we are bound to receive as true whatever the canon shows to have been said by even one prophet, or apostle, or evangelist. Otherwise, not a single page will be left for the guidance of human fallibility, if contempt for the wholesome authority of the canonical books either puts an end to that authority altogether, or involves it in hopeless confusion." In Short - Faustus claims there were contradictions with what Paul wrote. St. Augustine said that Paul was being true to himself, and then he says - "As regards our writings, which are not a rule of faith or practice, but only a help to edification, we may suppose that they contain some things falling short of the truth in obscure and recondite matters, and that these mistakes may or may not be corrected in subsequent treatises." St. Augustine then goes on to say that, if contempt were to ever be shown for the authority of the gospels; then, the guidance of human fragility will be in jeopardy. Meaning - The Church must make sure that the authority of the Gospels are without question in order to guide humanity. Turek, you are a wolf, and your dishonesty never ceases to amaze me.
