Sorry this is wrong. Ephesians 5:1 reads, for example: “Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children.” The Greek of this verse reads more literally, “Become imitators of God.” So, are we to be like God? Yes! The lie was "we wouldn't die" God himself said that after they bit from the fruit, they were like US. meaning God the trinity. Then the LORD God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” Once we eat fruit of life, we live forever, like God and the angels.

The greatest lie is Melissa Dougherty. The reason the world is the way it is, is because, everyone believes that their god (somewhere out in the ether) is better then everyone else's god. And they will go to any lengths to prove it. Just like the history of Chrstns has done. And nowhere in the Bible did the Serpent lie.

Man lie not the book of God. Misinterpretation of the book is not a lie it's ignorance.

It’s true. But Eve and Adam both fell not from the lie, but from their own unbelief. Faith trumps lies.

Newest oldest lie: you can be your own Pope 😎
@NOOBKILLER052 Says:
The lie isn’t that we can share in the power of god, the lie was that we wouldn’t die Romans 8: 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Oldest lie? Probably the very first verse. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth...... as earth is a relatively new planet....
@96tolife Says:
Christians preach this lie daily. We talk about being more "Christlike." Or that we must strive to overcome all our sins (i.e. progressive sanctification). Only Jesus was sinless. And He is God. This isn't just something to attribute to the lost. We are just as guilty.

I disagree with the old adage “the greatest trick the devil ever played is convincing the world that God doesn’t exist”. I say “the greatest trick the devil ever played is convincing the world that absolute truth doesn’t exist”. If there’s no absolute truth, not only is there no God (a moral arbiter) but there is no morality (nothing is wrong).

@lovevuite Says:
Wowowowow this hit me like a truck, I'm having conversations to an atheist and his rejection of God, he tells me he hates the idea of God punishing people on His terms. He doesn't like that God would send people to hell and considers it evil in human terms. He also considered it evil when God punished the Cananites as well as Sodom and Gomorrah. He would rather live his life apart from God, and live according to his desires, but not take accountability by God's standard. He hates the idea of accountability by God's laws, and his deep hatred and dislike of God is so personal, which is weird because he claims that he doesn't care about God (seems to be a lie he tells himself). I think he is lashing out because deep down he's terrified of God's judgement. But again, he doesn't want to be held accountable.

I would caveat that man was like God (made in His image and likeness), but clearly subject to Him. The original lie therefore was that we could be like God through disobedience and following our own wisdom. The whole point of Christianity is to become like God, but that requires us to depend on Him and not act on our wisdom.
@hansdemos6510 Says:
Please note that all the bad stuff we humans did only happened *_after_* God's curse took effect. If God had just killed Adam and Eve for their disobedience, which was the only punishment he threatened in Genesis 2, none of the bad stuff Ms. Dougherty describes could have happened.
@hansdemos6510 Says:
So... where exactly did the serpent lie? These are all the serpents lines in Genesis 3: 1 And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Well, we know that Adam and Eve lived long lives afterwards, so they surely did not die in accordance with what God had threatened them with in the previous chapter verse 17 _But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: _*_for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die._* And as God himself said in verse 22 (see below), knowing good and evil did make Adam and Eve like God, and if they then go on and also eat of the tree of life, they will also not die, as the serpent correctly surmised. Please note that if eating from the tree of knowledge had instantly or quickly killed Adam and Eve, which would have been compatible with God's threat from Gen. 2:17, there would have been no risk of them becoming immortal, which means that the serpent was not lying, but he got the order wrong; he should have made Adam and Eve eat of the tree of life first and then of the tree of knowledge... Genesis 2:22 _And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden,..._
@FreemanBBFQ Says:
Yeah, one of the first lies of Satan that we shall be as Gods, does it ring a bell for many christians tho? Like maybe free will to deny God's will to save all? And maybe then the lies of the Trinity so that "ye shall not surely die" which applies to Jesus' sacrifice that you complete with nonsensical teachings of immortality of the soul, eternal hell and spice it up with purgatory if you're from THAT brand of a religion.
@Gek1177 Says:
The serpent actually told the truth. Eve didn't die. Or so the story goes.
@macmac1022 Says:
The oldest lie in the book might be about egypt having slaves built their stuff when they were paid workers. People of all kinds please state if your theists, atheists, agnostics or any combination of those and then if willing participate in the test. As well, looking for 5 good moral theist questions for atheists/agnostics. #1 You see a child drowning in a shallow pool and notice a person just watching that is able to save the child with no risk to themselves but is not, is that person moral? #2 If you go to save the child, the man tells you to stop as he was told it was for the greater good, but he does not know what that is, do you continue to save the child or stop? #3 Is it just to punish innocent people for the crimes of others? #4 If you were able to stop it and knew a person was about to grape a child would you stop it? #5 Would you consider an all knowing parent who put their kids in a room with a poison fruit and told the kids not to eat it but then also put a supernatural con artist in the room with the children knowing the con artist will get the kids to eat the fruit and the parent does nothing to stop it a good parent?
@Mavors1099 Says:
The serpent didn't lie, though.
@mlauntube Says:
This is a very bad representation and a false teaching. God confirmed that the serpent didn't lie in the mentioned statement: Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil... The deception of the serpent was not that knowing good and evil would make Eve an equal with God, but that knowing and experiencing things like her own son Cain murdering her other son Able, or other things like rape and betrayal and torture were beneficial things that God was withholding from Adam and Eve. This is an attack on God's character. If God tells us not to look behind door number 2, don't open it. Psalm 119:29 Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law.
@ashemgold Says:
Correction from a father in the faith: (slight, but much needed) There's a bit of confusion in her words here. In not using Biblical speech, scripture or Godly reasoning she has assumed much and convoluted the rest. Being a 'mini-god' and the wealthiest, best known, favorite or greatest Christian or preacher with the most followers, or setting your throne above the stars of God, lifting up your own horn, sitting at the head of the congregation, or in the chief seats at feasts, or even the desire to sit at Jesus' right and left hand of honor is all about selfishness and pride is one thing that brings God's judgement, disapproval and demotion. (Basically the powerless western church model.) Lucifer's deceptive offer to Eve to be wise and knowing like God is an appeal to this wayward desire. Sonship with God on the other hand and being an obedient, present day heir of God, seated at the right hand of God in Christ Jesus is far, far different. Only the babes and humble need apply. You've probably seen very few of these people in your lifetime. Many are saved, but few walk with God purely. They are persecuted by even the proud elect at times. Beware, be as children before God and see if you can perceive the difference between someone who is born again (many) and someone that truly pleases God. An understanding of Biblical authority would help out a lot here. Blessings...
@festushaggen2563 Says:
Natural man sits on the throne of his own heart leaving no room for God and attacking God for threatening that throne. The god of self wants to dictate what is right and wrong, to redefine what is good and evil and makes sure self gets a passing grade as “good” no matter the evils are regularly said and done. We will all worship something and it’ll ultimately come down to self or God.
@logicalatheist1065 Says:
Doesn't matter how old a lie is, a lie is a lie... The very first page is the start of the lies in the Bible
@willievanstraaten1960 Says:
Melissa, you are unwittingly making your god the liar. Genesis 1:26 And God said: “let us make man in our image, after our likeness” He declared to make man in their image, to me it sounds like gods. Secondly who the hell are these other entities who are like him? The Bible is so screwed up.

@joshuakohlmann9731 Says:
Except there are several passages in the Bible that confirm this so-called "lie": "The kingdom of God is within you" "Is it not written in your law, I say, you are gods?" "I am in my father, you in me and I in you" "These works I do, you shall do also, and greater works shall you do, because I go to the Father" "Know you not that you are the temple, and Christ dwells in you?" At the very least, the Bible seems ambivalent on the subject.
@aminals8933 Says:
Love that
@jamesw4250 Says:
Except the devil didn't lie. Your god did.
@hammerhed4140 Says:
I've been looking at that, kinda keeping it in the back of my head I believe the first lie, was not a contradiction of what God said, but rather an acknowledgement of what God said. Satan didn't question God's Word, that was the 2nd lie. The 1st lie, was an acknowledgement... Didn't God say, you can eat of every tree? Suggesting, that "every tree", would include that tree also.
@Mavors1099 Says:
Genesis 3 22 The Lord God said, “Since THE MAN HAS BECOME LIKE ONE OF US, knowing good and evil, he must not reach out, take from the tree of life, eat, and live forever.” It wasn't a lie after all. They did become like gods... According to this story.

@platinumwarrior1309 Says:
Wouldn’t going to heaven and being an immortal at some point make us “like” God? Thought that was like the whole point lol Then the Lord said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever— Genesis 3:22
