Knot theory is a subject of mathematics based on knots, which are tied in closed loops instead of ropes or shoelaces like we're used to. There is the trivial knot, called the “un-knot” which is just a loop with no knots. Then there's the trefoil, which has a “crossing” number of three. They're also in varience, which doesn't change, no matter how much you tangle it. There are also links, like the Borromean rings for example. A link is just any knot that has more than one closed loop. I made cards for these knots and drew all of them up to 7 crossings.

cool video but i think the part about clockwise vs counterclockwise isnt the full story wrt: square vs granny knot. Which direction you take to form a square knot depends on how you form the first trefoil (which strand passes on top vs underneath).

I remember I taught myself how to tie my shoes when I was a kid. I was very proud of it. But I taught myself the wrong way so my shoes were always coming untied. One day when I was probably 18 or so, I was walking with my mom and had to stop to tie my shoe. Then it came undone again a few minutes later and I had to stop again. She asked "do you not know how to tie your shoes or something?" I'm like "what? of course I do..." Then like ten years later I learned about the other method and realized I didn't actually know how to tie my shoes correctly for almost 30 years.
