I watched a video not too long ago describing the private equity investment into YouTube channels and how essentially a group will purchase a bunch of YouTube channels and package them together as an investment and slightly let them do whatever they want for a few years but more and more controlling/ honing in on the most engaged content, and after enough time the formula is essentially figured out in the main people who built the channel originally get phased out while the name remains. Veritasium was one of the named channels! I don't even watch the channel but it's funny to see this comment and wonder if it's related. For all I know the Derek guy is just sick or something but it would be interesting if he was basically passed out or didn't want to be apart of the project anymore

I have a foolproof method for nuclear disarmament.
Gather all existing warheads and explode them evenly around the planet. This eliminates all nukes and guarantees no more will be built as there will be no one to build them.
Simple.

The reason the Russians installed nukes in Cuba was because the Americans installed nukes in turkey. It was only when Kennedy agreed to remove their weapons that the Soviets pulled out of Cuba. The Americans spun the narrative to look like they won. This is how history is distorted. Once again Kennedy proved he was a snake.

A flyby by the Soviet border? The Soviet border was about 1000 km east of the Adriatic Sea. 🤣So, combat planes sliding off the carrier deck is a, kind of, US Navy tradition? Good to know. 🤣

The idea that the Cold War "ended" is a foolish one. There are Russian submarines off each coast of the US RIGHT NOW each equipped with over 90 nuclear missiles. And we have the same on their coasts.

You left out important details for the bombs in North Carolina. For the one that cratered, the switch that didn't trigger was the one that gets pulled by the parachute deploying. The one with its parachute in the tree didn't have its impact switch trigger.

The man who died in the Arkansas fuel leak incident was actually a hero. He went back through an air duct into the vapor-filled area and used the computers to shut down parts of the rocket, helping prevent even greater damage. There was a documentary about this story

To quote an NPR headline "For the first time in decades, the U.S. and Russia have no limits on nuclear weapons" with the expiration of the NEW START treaty, there are no more guard rails on the size of nuclear arsenals of the US and Russia. This is the first time we have been in this situation in decades. The first START treaty was put into place soon after the end of the cold war.

11:10 — Wrong, @veritasium. The Soviet "Nuclear Football" was never activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The closest we have come to Nuclear War was during the Norwegian Rocket Incident on January 25, 1995. Russian Generals were literally screaming in Boris Yeltsin's ear that this was a First Strike EMP Attack and that he had to launch immediately. Luckily he was sober that day and refused. The whole incident was caused by a Rocket with a Scientific Ionospheric Instrument Payload launched from our Space Port (Scientific Rocket Range back then) at Oksebåsen, Andøya, Arctic Norway. My Father and I were closely linked to the range. The launch was aimed towards the Norwegian Ocean and the Russians had been given the proper, formal notice. But it had gotten lost in their crumbling bureaucracy.
So, when they detected a single launch coming from the coastline of Norway, they feared it was an SLBM, a Scenario they had played out many times where a single nuclear weapon is detonated in the ionosphere over Russia to cause an EMP event to knock out Communications and the Electric Grid before a Main Attack.
After a few tense minutes, their Radar Stations reported back that the trajector had been determined as moving away from the Norwegian Coastline towards the Norwegian Sea. This is the only time the Russian "Nuclear Football" has ever been activated.
